The Register spent Tuesday evening at the Delaware County Bar Association Inn of Court happy hour and CLE program where he learned about the art of cross examination (and brought the youngest Rongiones to cross examine Santa!)

We spent yesterday afternoon at our office holiday party celebrating our accomplishments this year and the hard work of our team. Thanks to everyone who joined us!

❤️ MARRIAGE MONDAY ❤️
This week's couple is Cady and Zachary, who live in Delaware but work in Delco! Zachary proposed to her in the Swiss Alps, and they recently got married at Drumore Mill in Lancaster County. Congrats, Cady and Zachary!

Our office will be operating on a two hour delay today, meaning we will be opening at 10:30!

4. Delco Bar Association Family Law Annual Dinner: The Register joined the Family Law section at Fava in Glen Mills for a delicious dinner. He discussed how our office is working to improve our processes in marriage licenses, guardianships, adoptions, and more!

3. Delco Bar Gift Drive drop off: On Wednesday the Register stopped by the Delco Bar to drop off the box full of gifts we collected for their Gift Drive. Gifts are for children 0-18 and will be going to shelters across the county.

2. IT Security Training: The Register and other employees completed an IT Security Training module where they learned about the risks of AI tools. The training focused on how Artificial Intelligence tools can expose sensitive data and how to use them safely at work.

1. Mitten Tree: We continued to collect winter clothes to benefit our neighbors! Drop off gloves, hats, scarves, and other winter clothing in our office between now and the end of the year. When you donate, your name will be put on an ornament for the tree in front of our office.

🤔 What is a petition?

Think of a complaint or a motion in criminal court. But because Orphans' Court is a court of equity, they are called petitions! Look out for more info about this soon!

Here are some types of petitions that come before the Register:
- Petition to Admit a Copy of Will to Probate
- Petition for Citation to Appoint an Administrator
- Petition for Asset Jurisdiction
- Petition for Domicile
- Petition to Withdraw as Counsel
- Many more!

Hearings are typically held on issues including fitness to serve as Executor or Administrator or issues with the circumstances under which the will was executed. State and local law is used as the basis for these decisions.

Once a week, the Register and the First Deputy review the formal filings made to the Register. The First Deputy makes a recommendation, and the Register makes the final legal decision on whether a hearing is necessary.

🤔 Ever wondered what the Register does in his quasi-judicial role? One of his biggest roles is the weekly petitions meeting, where he does a comprehensive legal review of 5-10 cases per week! Here's what that means 🧵:

Today we were proud to finish our collection for the Delaware County Bar Association’s Holiday Gift Drive and drop it off at the Delco Bar offices in Media! The toys will be distributed to shelters across Delco for kids to enjoy!

Remember to drop off warm winter clothes at our office as part of our Mitten Tree clothing drive! We’re accepting donations until the end of the year!

This week's couple is Ramona and Matthew, who met while working at Trader Joe's in Media. Their first date was a reading date at @swarthmorecollege.bsky.social, and they got engaged a year later at that same reading nook. They're getting married in their backyard in Media!

Today's couple is Alexus and Samuel, who are both from Delco and live in Thornton. They both work in the medical field and met at a senior living community. Their first date was at Tavola Bar + Restaurant, where they bonded over their love of espresso martinis.

Today we are thankful for everyone who recognizes the importance of estate planning! Our office will be closed today and tomorrow in observance of the holiday.
