Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!” Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?” Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.” Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”
How I’ve Been Pronouncing It (Feat. Foghorn Leghorn, my… roommate?)
You and me both. Im gonna tap out now. Thanks for the convo ❤️
I understand.
I find my own reason enough to believe. People like you, help me believe.
I wont see it all in my lifetime. But I think we have a solid shot of making the world a better place.
progress isnt linear, and we are in a period of lost voice. but. I really do believe that.
re: luddism
automation wasnt the problem: the society that allows workers to starve while producitivity rises was.
just like how trans ppl arent the issue, but tackling the issues highlighted by critical race/gender theory involves a complete cognitive restructuring of abuse structures (difficult)
Its a combination of both education and action.
i believe in the people because i believe that technology — communications especially — will fail to regress. there is no finite digital frontier which you can completely dominate. the infrastructure may change, but the knowledge stays
Not everybody needs to know everything. But we can teach critical thinking. And then we can inform those who need to know about things they're not privy to
Building a logical, effective form of trust. I should able to trust your politics much like I trust the software that runs on my computer. I dont check the source code of everything I run. But I know theres people out there who do the vetting for me. Ideally journos would do this. But $$$
im fairly certain there are studies that show that this is indeed more efficient
I believe it is possible for us to stratify and even have hierarchies without dominance. i mean, thats the ideal of representational democracy, right? Our current leaders may not be ideal, but I think as social awareness grows, things will change for the better
we can design our world so we share the cognitive load, since ultimately it is the initial learning that takes the most resources. even then, most necessary resources can be made renewable. and mostly automated. we are the best tool makers.
profit is just a bad goal to optimize for.
the best engineers understand people as much as they do the world. im not saying a fascist rule isnt powerful and dangerous. but we could do better. and we will. through education. because people can be taught about dominance hierarchies much easier than any one person can restrict all communication
do you believe the world needs a dominance hierarchy to exist? do you think dominance hierarchies are efficient?
it's essentially the tortoise and the hare. delusion is fast, but there comes things you cannot understand using a flawed perception of reality. ultimately that is their downfall. methodical approaches allows for better solutions.
the more we are educated, the more dangerous we become. you're right theyre not mutually exclusive. but good luck producing good engineers in an abusive society without encountering educated dissenters.
there will always be things to build, but it would be ridiculous to deny that automation has saved countless human hours. we make better tools so we can make life a better and easier place to live. especially for the jobs that suck. engineers are more efficient than slaves
educated, equitable cooperation allows us to organize more efficiently and replace labor with applied science faster
individuals may benefit from abusing others, but it is a shallow life to live. capital alone does not make life worth living.
So let's change the game we're playing
Ideally the former would result in the latter. We are all equal -> We are equally deserving of care -> That person would likely benefit from a wheelchair.
You dont necessarily need to pull on someone's heartstrings to make them understand life is easier when we cooperate as equals
