perpetually at this confusing crossroads where people consistently tell me my work is great but nobody has any idea how to actually uhhhhh hire me for anything? I know work is drying up for everyone i just have no idea how to make myself marketable despite having, imo, a robust skillset

Absolutely something I never thought about until I had to take that extra step of drawing them in almost every panel of a story.

I’m saying this as someone that recently asked my co-writer if we could change a character design because I get miserable if I draw glasses for more than ten pages, so don’t take anything I post too seriously.

Lighting and framing/composition drive our sense of beauty more than subject - focusing on that has helped me mentally invest in drawing things that might otherwise be dull and time consuming. Still always tough under comics deadlines though!
