"Reminder! contains tools for resilience & agency" atop image of book cover. Words surround: Hope! Justice, Magical Activism, Solarpunk...
I wrote The Working to offer ways to exercise power & agency to counter harms & oligarchs. Reminder that my "fantasy" has real tools for resilience, activism, and change.

Cover of RABBIT TEST AND OTHER STORIES by Nebula Award-Winner Samantha Mills, author of The Wings Upon Her Back. The text "Rabbit Test" is enlarged to take up most of the cover. "Rabbit" is white with a black rabbit sitting in the bottom center of "A," and "Test" is bright dark pink. The background is black.
One week left to enter to win a copy of RABBIT TEST AND OTHER STORIES by Samantha Mills! Those from the US can win a print copy, and those outside the US can win a digital copy.

Some boys skipped class to see the Beatles. Ringo Starr snapped a photo of them.
50 years later, the group recreated the photo.
All too often, writers are expected to work for nothing, not even expenses. This isn't right. @catherineczerkawska www.catherineczerkawska.co.uk/2026/04/payi...? #writingcommunity #writinglife #authorlife #publishing

Drawer containing small mason jars filled with spices. The lid of every jar is labeled with the spice name.
Instead of using my phone:
1. On Norway Taskmaster they mentioned spice drawers. We got VERY inspired and made one for all of @gooutsidetoday.com's spices.
2. Donated blood for the first time in my life.
3. Did ridiculous scenes with my improv team.
4. Took photos of pigeons with compact camera.
Small Wonders is one of my favorite online magazines. It costs half the price of a latte per month, and the beautiful language and cozy bite-sized stories and poems bring ten times the enjoyment as that overpriced coffee drink. Check them out, you won't be sorry.

A picture of the book 'The Will of the Many' by James Islington
So, I recently finished The Will of the Many by James Islington - easy 5 stars for me! Favourite book of 2026 so far.
To keep a long review short... incredible world building, well crafted plot, and victories that feel satisfying and earned.
Highly recommend!

Hey! Contract's signed, so I'm happy to say I have a new short story coming to @clarkesworldmagazine.com. "Our Revels Now Are Ended." A guy who might not be real interrogated by a guy who might not be real in a library that might not be real. Happy to return and looking forward to sharing this one.
I've always boggled that writers are expected to speak in public, yet get basically no support for learning to do so. So I cheer on Jackie Kessler and Emily Sachs, who are holding a free demo for a writer-specific Toastmasters club Sunday, April 19th:

'Written with the sensitivity and narrative elegance one might expect from a storyteller of Arnopp’s calibre, this novel offers a portrait of Marguerite of Anjou that is both vivid and compelling, steeped in atmosphere yet driven by character.' #Review

Don’t put off until tomorrow what you could do today, like starting a rumour about a terrifying & beautiful creature who haunts the forest north of town, and then becoming the reason that rumour is true.
Meme: women in messy office. "Become a writer, they said. It will be fun, they said."
