The logline doesn't just tell the reader about your screenplay.

It also reveals if you have some basics down on the business, understand the market, and can recognize a good story idea.

You're not just selling the screenplay in that moment. You're selling YOU.

Though...if you want to direct it yourself, go for it! A number of great films started from shorts. Whiplash comes to mind.

I'd recommend that you finish it first and even polish it a bit. Make sure it's your story, then share it. There will still be plenty of room for development.

Money is one reason, but also, I think almost any director out there would see the trailer and say, "Looks like you've already got a vision. You don't need me. F off!"
