i'll be in town early, leaving late. have a few plans, and obviously need to get cards signed and altered, but the majority of my time will be cubing. i'll post details to my bsky and to the cubing at MagicCon discord.
there are also a ton of cube draft groups. will DM server link so bots don't farm it.
Powell's City of Books
Japanese Garden (especially if you can attend a tea ceremony)
Rose Garden (right down the hill from Japanese Garden)
Ground Kontrol
food: I'm a fan of Andina, OX, and Blue Star, but anyone could make a list of 20 great spots that included none of them
Mox Amber is a quiet image painted with meticulous detail โ perhaps too much detail for a tiny trading card. Who would commit to such monotony, knowing it would never be seen at scale?

kick ass! congrats!
I miss the days of playing DDR a couple of nights a week, at Illusionz and Gameworks, occasionally Seattle Center or down at Quarters. those were the days. I was in good shape then.
played a couple of games of DDR. I'm too out of shape to do Afronova. only got a B+.
I should re-watch The Big O...
had a draft of my cube several years back in Vegas, when I was still on a bunch of Conspiracies in the list. won the roll. t1 Collector Ouphe via Hymn of the Wilds.
oppo shows their handful of mana rocks with Black Lotus and Moxen, then concedes. shamefully I must admit I cackled.
completely agree and said as such.
I mean, yes? but that's why we pursue that conversation, is it not? I also like conversations during and after, where welcomed. call out the cool plays. ask if people had fun. "was my deck ok?"
"no cEDH", again, in less than two seconds, 80+% of the time. second most common answer is, "I don't know." or some variant of "nothing that wins by turn 3."
I have to pull teeth to get meaningful answers. I have to iterate through how they feel about stax, combo, wraths, player removal, ...
Magic is at its best when everyone is at the same place, both the gathering and mentally. I can love silly, casual, even role-playing nonsense as much as quiet, intense, focused competition... but I need to know what everybody wants; we should all know that. we should all honor it.
even more importantly, listen and be true when you hear these conversations. honor the intent. if people voice that they want to just be chill and you're craving a win, don't. just don't. change your mindset, find another game, or sit out.
when you're committing 45-90m (or more) of everyone's time, be respectful and thoughtful of it. spend a few seconds thinking about the pregame questions before making that commitment for everyone. ask your own questions to ensure the bar is set properly.
"what vibe would you like?" "I don't know." and "a good one" are the most common responses. again, worthless.
do you want to be relaxed? competitive? are we chatting? friendly? do you want people engaged and focused? or is the game pretext for hanging and being social. think, then respond.
"what kind of game do you want to play?" "a good one" or some variant is the most common response. this is worthless.
do you want a game that goes quickly? should people be playing to win? are there styles you strongly dislike? think, then respond.
i'll frequently ask, "what kind of game would you like to play?", "what vibe would you like?", "how spicy do you want it?", and other questions. I get responses in less than 2 seconds.
I wish more people gave meaningful thought to their answers in rule 0 conversations.
i miss LiveJournal...
Are there bonus points for noticing the double space after the question mark?
If you qualify, go for it. This sounds like a dream.
Good luck to all who qualify! It sounds like an incredible opportunity to improve the quality of the game we love.
I have the judge experience, deep respect for consistency (autistic computer science nerd), and I've played since The Dark. I've reworded games friends had in design but nothing that was ever released. Sadly, I don't think I'd make it past a screener as I lack the professional experience.
I hope you love your time in our city. Please reach out if you need anything or want to meet up. I know time is tight so no worries if you're not able.
i don't even run it in a powered cube. i know what it's capable of.
wild how Steam has been on Mac for 16 years now and they _still_ haven't made it full screen properly. like, it's such a fundamental thing that every other app does. just, why?
it'll be fine. I just need to avoid things like linking every <=2 power creature with a trigger to Delney and the like, just include "the good stuff".
