Done. Now on to CMA#6, the Ahern v. Sig Sauer settlement for $400,000-ish. Well, transfer of $400,000 to support the settlement.
JSW will oppose the settlement and thinks it'll cost the city "far more money."
“Councillor Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler, a vocal advocate of the transfer fee, said he thinks an enabling act…is the city’s best bet for getting the transfer fee authorized by the state.”
“If the legislature advances the fee, Cambridge could place up to a 2 percent tax on the value of real estate transactions above $1 million. Revenue raised by the fee would go towards funding affordable housing throughout the city”
“Cambridge’s home rule petition is one way the city can help keep attention and pressure on the issue, and I’m glad we moved forward with it last night,” Sobrinho-Wheeler told Cambridge Day via email.

It's titled "Policy Order #4: That the city manager is requested to confer with relevant city staff and report back with information as the first step in the exploration of a potential Cambridge Snow Corps Program." Some cities have recently been exploring increased municipal sidewalk snow clearance, including the hiring of Emergency Snow Shovelers by the Mayor of New York City and the creation of a similar Snow Corps in Boston, based on models in Baltimore and Chicago. Cambridge can follow these cities' leads and expand sidewalk snow clearance here as well. I'm hoping the City Council will vote to move forward with the policy order as a first step to strengthening sidewalk snow removal in Cambridge. Any personal stories you can share with the City Council about why sidewalk snow removal matters to you via email (citycouncil@cambridgema.gov) or public comment would be helpful.

Met with East Cambridge residents this morning about improving the intersection of Charles River Dam Road & Museum Way by the Museum of Science.
Right now it’s dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

Also sponsoring a PO to try to prohibit CPD from hiring ICE officers since Jan 2025. Anyone carrying a gun for the City should not have been trained by ICE, especially given everything we've seen them do in MN

Like our streets, our sidewalks are a public resource—and our city policies should treat that them way when it comes to snow clearance

This means that parts of sidewalks are cleared well and other parts on the same block can be an icy mess, which is especially hard for residents with disabilities or strollers.
Cambridge is one of the best walking cities in the country but only if our sidewalks are clear
When it snows, the City government is responsible for clearing roads throughout Cambridge.
But snow on sidewalks is currently the responsibility of thousands of different property owners
