At second glance, good to see that progress is being made. Let's see... www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of...

(On the other hand, it's good news that the Manx government and UK government are taking steps to resolve this quickly. Let's see...)
Disgraceful that UK Government has chosen to block this compassionate legislation, blatantly undermining the clear democratic will of the Manx parliament. A devastating blow to terminally ill people on the Isle of Man. Seems like Westminster politicking harming the most vulnerable.

In London for the day!
Hearing Neil Kinnock at an event this morning reminded me of just how much I like him so re-sharing the interview I did with him last year for @newhumanist.bsky.social newhumanist.org.uk/articles/646...
BEST FOR BRITAIN Is it time to talk about EU membership? The future of UK-EU relations April 2026 By Tom Brufatto And James Coldwell, Ayesha Chaudhry, and Joshua Edwicker CHANGE MINDS → CHANGE POLITICS
Neil Kinnock speaking with Zoe Williams. He is calling for the UK to join the EU.
Anand Menon, Neil Kinnock, Zoe Williams, Naomi Smith, Tom Brufatto on a panel
Fascinating event this morning at @bestforbritain.org for launch of their new polling report. Stellar panel including Neil Kinnock and @anandmenon.bsky.social (giving administrative burden its correct primacy in political analysis). Thanks to the ever determined @pimlicat.bsky.social for the invite.
Well, after all, it wasn’t until 1965 that it became unlawful to discriminate on grounds of race in hospitality and it wasn’t until 2004 that ‘reasonable chastisement’ stopped being a defence all for ABH or GBH on a child. Progress is real!
And everyone thinks the racism of not letting a Greek into the hotel is basically fine!
A bit of a preachy turn-off, and unreal. It struck a bum note for me but didn’t ruin the book. I’ll read the next one!
I look forward to it. The only other book by the author I read was his one about Christianity which made very wary of this novel even though it sounded up my street!
I’m reading it today! Two-thirds through and loving it. The second world war in Britain really does remain the best setting for fictional good vs evil and that does facilitate writing about magic.
Thanks for sharing!
Alf still one of Britain’s most inspiring humanists!
“Populism can be a very tough business to fight against. But in the end, we have to approach human rights issues with certain principles. We have to say something is right, and we stick by what is right.”

Last year I saw two boxing in the field and it was magical
Beautiful
There are few (no?) social issues on which the public has so clear and settled an opinion so no wonder that opponents of choice commission and publicise such outrageously misleading polls. Don’t take my word for it - read the former president of YouGov! ⬇️ kellnerp.substack.com/p/lies-damne...

A great moment to remember why Scruton's FT column came to an abrupt end.
I’m looking forward to reading about it!

A wonderful moment in particular for all the journalists, activists, lawyers, and other liberals who never gave up. Of course there’ll be challenges ahead but they have showed they are equal to them! Especially looking forward to celebrating with the Hungarian Humanists when I see them this summer 🥂
Just now on Sky News: “A good night for Europe and a great disappointment for President Trump and Vladimir Putin.” I still have the ability to feel shocked when hearing words like that out loud and remembering that the current US and Russian governments are on the same side.
🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer has congratulated Magyar Péter after Viktor Orbán lost Hungary’s Parliamentary election
"This is an historic moment, not only for Hungary, but for European democracy"
A glass of champagne raised
Raising a glass to the beginning of the end of the Nationalist International!
Orban owns the media. He controls the information environment. He rigged the electoral system to make defeat next-to impossible. The govt of the most powerful country on earth tried to bribe Hungarian voters in his favour. It didn't work.
