Catholic refugee contracts canceled, risking life-saving aid in US and abroad A federal judge is weighing a U.S. bishops' lawsuit to halt cuts temporarily. The U.S. government has stiffed the bishops on $13 million owed for care for refugees before Jan. 24.

The U.S. State Department has terminated contracts for refugee-related programs with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Jesuit Refugee Service, but attorneys for the bishops called the Feb. 26 action unlawful.
