Based on conversations I had today with NSF program officers, they have not yet received the funds that were appropriated to the foundation by Congress.
GRIB JS????
I knew about autumnplot and even have some secret plans for using it in a project (not that secret I just haven’t started yet and it might be years before I have time lol).
BUT GRIB? IN THE BROWSER? absolutely insane potential. I sincerely hope this gets more attention
I’ve gotten randomly logged out a few times today so I think they’re having server issue
It’s 1:30 am Saturday night and like the average 25 year old I have just committed some of the most beautiful dataframe logic I’ve ever written (I guess that’s subjective) and I’m too proud not to share: github.com/wx4stg/slow_...

I will NOT turn this skeet into a side project. It is NOT a good idea to modify the design of a plasma speaker to turn the wearer into emperor palpatine.
This is pretty much exactly what was done for Sherman et al 2024, make the luminance jumps/reversals at the scientifically interesting points.
This seems to work well for ChaseSpectral and I’ve wanted a satellite colormap in the same vein since. excited to see where this goes!
This is fantastic!

A few months ago, I scared some members of my generation by watching a game on antenna TV. I think people my age genuinely don’t know that’s an option and buy whatever streaming service because they think it’s required.

You could even make that transmission one-way, that way there’s no server that could get overloaded!
I mentioned last year that I wanted to make a webassembly (either pyodide or emscripten-forge) version of that page… it hasn’t hit the top of the todo list yet but maybe one day..
SounderPy (cc @wxkylegillett.bsky.social) is pretty good, installable as a python package: kylejgillett.github.io/sounderpy/
or also there’s a website that runs it: sounderpysoundings.anvil.app
“Google has created a misinformation crisis. Studies have shown that people tend to trust what AI tells them without question…Another experiment found that users still listened to AI when it gave them the wrong answer nearly 80% of the time—a grim trend the researchers dubbed “cognitive surrender.”
Comic. [Crack of lightning making BOOOOM sound over dark background. On ground, there are two figures looking at it.] PERSON 1: Don’t worry, I’m wearing an anti-static wrist strap.

The Orion spacecraft, to the left, with earth in the foreground. The earth is half illuminated, with clouds swirling and a land mass visible.
Yeah this keeps getting better
Then of course there's all the implications for emissions/water use/datacenters everywhere/"hyperscalers", as well as "training these models on copyrighted material without consent of copyright holders" which... I'm hoping people get held accountable for all that, but cant unring the bell.
This largely aligns with my thoughts on the matter. It's nice for building demos fast, but the whole reason we code is so that computers can do something predictable, repeatedly. I don't know if I'll ever trust it for infrastructure.
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

A bit of a different take on the amazing Artemis II launch footage.
Here I stitched clips from the four Solar Array Wing Cameras to make this panoramic video.
This is during the later part of the Core Stage burn until MECO and stage separation, sped up to 10x. 🔭🧪 #Artemis
Look what showed up for testing last week... Arm comes to Framework ;)
I'll have my thoughts ready next week, working through some BIOS issues this week. Biggest question is whether this solves the idle power issues found on MS-R1, Orion O6, and Orange Pi 6+.
