AAP and AFSP Youth Suicide Prevention Ambassador Project: Collaboration and Community Impact 10.1542/6378835952112Video AbstractPEDS-VA_2025-0708306378835952112To address the growing youth suicide public health crisis in the United States, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to create a comprehensive response through the Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention. The collaboration between AAP and AFSP also resulted in the Community Youth Suicide Prevention program. This program leveraged each organizationโ€™s network of state-level chapters and brought together subject-matter experts in pediatric health, suicide prevention, and community engagement to develop the Community Youth Suicide Prevention program. Subject-matter experts were named statewide Suicide Prevention ambassadors. Ambassadors participated in an 8-month Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) educational series, which featured expert faculty in suicide prevention. Supported by a grant from the AAP, ambassadors developed an action plan of goals and activities centered around 5 domains based on the Blueprint. Domains focused on community suicide prevention strategies and included health equity, policy and advocacy, community partnerships, communications and media, and sustainability. Outcomes from the ECHO and chapter-based activities included increased knowledge of suicide prevention strategies along with increased commitment and confidence when applying suicide prevention education to community partnerships. Additionally, a special overview of the projects of 2 chapters, Maryland AAP and Mississippi AFSP, are presented.

New paper out about a community project to prevent youth suicides through a partnership between American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) across the United States:

Hi there! I'm working on my thesis and would appreciate some guidance :) The initial idea was to explore adverse childhood experiences, DBT, and #addictionsci. I've decided to focus on the future and Relapse Prevention โ€“ do you know any areas in this field that still need empirical research?

We're still inviting people with ABI, close others (Australia), clinicians, & researchers (worldwide) to share their experiences & needs around suicidality and self-harm after ABI.
Conversations so far have been incredibly valuable and deeply appreciated.

ABA
It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day.
Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accordance with the rule of law and in an orderly manner that respects the lives of affected individuals and the work they have been asked to perform.
Instead, we see wide-scale affronts to the rule of law itself, such as attacks on constitutionally protected birthright citizenship, the dismantling of USAID and the attempts to criminalize those who support lawful programs to eliminate bias and enhance diversity.
We have seen attempts at wholesale dismantling of departments and entities created by Congress without seeking the required congressional approval to change the law. There are efforts to dismiss employees with little regard for the law and protections they merit, and social media announcements that disparage and appear to be motivated by a desire to inflame without any stated factual basis. This is chaotic. It may appeal to a few.
But it is wrong. And most Americans recognize it is wrong.
It is also contrary to the rule of law.
The American Bar Association supports the rule of law. That means holding governments, including our own, accountable under law. We stand for a legal process that is orderly and fair.
We have consistently urged the administrations of both parties to adhere to the rule of law. We stand in that familiar place again today. And we do not stand alone. Our courts stand for the rule of law as well.
