He is not here – for He is risen!

Holy Land, 25 years ago this month.

Jesus has been to hell and back, and the first words He speaks to His friends is, “Peace.”

If only we would listen.

Icon of Easter and the harrowing of hell

Because of what God has done in Jesus Christ, the Church, and the world, lives with hope, no longer to seek the living among the dead.

Fresco-style painting of Christ’s Harrowing of Hell. On the right, the risen Christ in white robes and a red halo steps through a radiant doorway, holding a long cross-staff, and stretches out his hand to pull Adam from a dark rocky cave on the left. Behind Adam stand Eve and a small group of haloed figures emerging from the gloom. At the lower edge, a broken wooden door and scattered locks lie over a black chasm, suggesting the defeated gates of hell, while a small blue demon recoils in the far left margin against the cave wall.

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death,
and giving life to those in the tomb.

The Sun of Righteousness is gloriously risen, giving light to
those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Let justice roll on
Like a river
Death’s defeated:
Were delivered!

I once was lost
But now I’m found
New creation’s springing up
Out of the ground!

He is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Hallelujah!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose! 🙌

A Blessed Easter to you!

Easter. The Resurrection of Christ.
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here!" Mk 16:5-6a

Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again; for forgiveness has risen from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the death of our Savior has set us free. He has destroyed it by enduring it.

From an Easter homily by St. John Chrysostom, circa 400 A.D.

Christ is risen!

On the day of #Jesus #Resurrection, #StGregoryNazianzen ponders #John 20:3-4, “Let us become Peter and John;
as they hastened to the tomb and the resurrection,
so let us hasten to the bath, running together,
racing against each…”

In Christ Alone is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful modern hymns there is.
