In the last three days we had a (super)cell a day, with the last one occurring around dawn this morning, all with 2+ cm hail and some kind of damage

My bad, the right links are: www.arpa.piemonte.it/rischi_natur..., www.arpa.piemonte.it/rischi_natur...
Fossalon from FVG will likely follow soon. Radars in Veneto and Emilia Romagna are now highest on our wish list, but no news about that yet.
Added only yesterday :) And it's even open data: www.arpa.piemonte.it/rischi_natur..., www.arpa.piemonte.it/rischi_natur.... Same for Lombardia: radarlive.arpalombardia.it/Volumi/. Beyond the open data, we also contact the other offices in N Italy directly.
An impressive collapsing hail core from the US, associated with severe wind-driven hail in Fremont (Nebraska) last year
I'd like to introduce you all to a personal project I've been working on recently. It's called Heimdall, and it's an MRMS + ProbSevere situational awareness monitor for CONUS scale severe weather. It's got roaming, alerts, archive mode, and is fully client side.

An elevated hail-producing supercell in Northern Italy from last night:
Yesterday we had the first (very) large hail event in north Italy, as a supercell descended from Como Lake into the Milan-Monza metroplex with hailstones up to 5-5.5 cm and producing damage to cars + 2 known injuries. Radar hail size estimation taken from meteologix.com
Nice hail core on this low-topped supercell in Northern France a while ago. It probably contained a large amount of small hail.
Inside the Wyoming, IA tornado today!
Here's video of the same exact tornado from a different angle! Words don't do it justice.

Northern France got its first warm-season storms of the year today
In Libanon ging vannacht de klok een paar jaar achteruit. Precies naar het punt dat wij als Europa bleven zwijgen over alle gruwelijke oorlogsmisdaden in Gaza.
Right now we only offer access to weather services (payed) and VOPs for the ESWD (free), not yet to other individuals. But I'll discuss internally whether we can change that.
TODAY IS THE DAY!
Today I anger every member of the weather, water, and climate enterprise by telling them to jump on the AI train or get left behind.
Get your tomatoes and "boos' ready!
Sadly that will not happen. Since with my focus now on ESSL's radar displayer, I have little time and motivation left for work on NLradar...
For the ESSL displayer it will also take a while until it becomes operational. So far it has just been a 2-day experiment in between other work.

So there may be a major severe weather outbreak around the western shore of the Persian Gulf this Thursday. Incredible synoptic setup for the region.
Pretty storm interaction over the Mediterranean near southern France. An almost stationary, regenerating storm gets overtaken by a small line of storms from the northwest. A decent mesocyclone forms when the storm gets overtaken, and then slowly decays while the line keeps moving southeast.
The final loop for the Beauregard tornado shows an example where debris didn't fully reach the storm's top and is ejected from the updraft at a somewhat lower altitude.
This situation is actually much more common for tornadoes, especially for weaker ones.
In this loop for the Rolling Fork tornado you can also easily see how the ejection occurs downstream of the town.
In this thread I'm showing 4 examples for violent US tornadoes, but these signatures are definitely not limited to violent events (though of course, they are often most pronounced).
This loop for the Mayfield tornado shows at least 5 ejections, with most pronounced one downstream of Mayfield.
One of the more fascinating phenomena to watch in this experimental polarimetric RGB remains the ejection and fallout of tornadic debris. The combination of low RhoHV (CC) and low ZDR leads to greenish-yellowish colors for debris, while precipitation often has red/blue/purple colors.
Yesterday evening a tornado occurred in southern Sardinia, causing the first Italian tornado-related injury since June 25th 2024 www.unionesarda.it/news-sardegn...

We do not recommend ever getting this close to a twister...

Full panorama of the 2025 Dickens/Wellfleet LP tornado+supercell!
View is looking ESE up into the mesocyclone. The RFD clear slot is visible in the upper right, and in the distance on the bottom left you can even see a bit of the FFCB. Stationary supercell with deviant westerly tornado. Perfection!
New update on the Apulia tornado of Feb 17: with new reports and Sentinel-2 imagery clues, what we previously reported as two separate twisters are now merged into one almost-19 km long path, becoming the longest tracked tornado known in Italy in February

INCREDIBLE footage from earlier this evening from the 43 Fire just southwest of Woodward, Oklahoma!
Absolutely INSANE firewhirls in the main fire line as it very quickly advanced northeast towards Woodward!
