This is 100% an attempt to mollify Trump. Fascist appeasement as policy.

Met police in talks to buy Palantir AI tech for use in criminal investigations Exclusive: Internal concerns over allowing US firm linked to ICE and Israeli military to process highly sensitive data

Beggars belief that Met Police is in talks with #Palantir about giving them access to highly sensitive data, when there’s already such concern over its links with ICE & Israeli military. Palantir already has UK contracts worth over £500m, incl. with NHS. We should be scrapping them not signing more

Labour's practices in this election have been appalling. Why is there not an authority we can go to when they make up statistics?

100% agree with Hasan. You can't zing off a one-liner while doing a crypto scam.

Did they really block you for this? This is the mildest, most obvious criticism

I think it's going to be the feedback loop of tech -> inequality -> fascism
Usually I think history ends up describing things that most people around at the time knew were happening but were largely powerless to stop.

It won't bring down Labour's transphobia, but the association of transphobia with persistent failure is a good one to have

I repeat once again that the problem is capitalism, forcing you to compete with the cheapest option by creating artificial scarcity. Oh, you want to pay a real person 10x the cost? Too bad, your boss needs to take most of your paycheck for his tenth yacht so he can compete with the other owners.

If however it's something you hate doing or are doing purely for the output, like doing your taxes or accounting or programming- assuming you don't like doing these things- then of course it's gonna appeal.

An interesting question. I agree in that if it's for writing or drawing or other fun stuff, then yes. And the existence of AI within capitalism means that even if the quality is worse, having a tool that can do it at 5% of the cost is gonna win.

I don't care about Starmer. He's one person, no more important than any other.
That said, he clearly does not have any principles beyond "the left is bad". He will capitulate to fascists, he will refuse to do good things even when it makes sense.
That is why he's bad at his job.

You're on anti-AI blocklists, I'm on pro-AI blocklists. If we work together we can be blocked by the entirety of this website.

I wonder how much AI will give us the tools to evade Windows dominance. It's just shifting the problem of course, but I'd rather have to deal with a dozen AI companies than one monopolistic software company.
And we may be able to democratise AI later on. So it's... a thought.

I've been able to use Copilot for. Copilot can just directly execute commands in the terminal. When I'm confused about something, I don't have to spend ages learning the commands and subtleties. I don't have time for that and imagine that being a barrier for a lot of other people as well.

Confession time, I've found Github Copilot insanely useful for navigating Linux issues. I'm relatively new to Linux, and have sometimes shifted back to my dual-booted Windows for certain things. Since using Github Copilot, I've been using Linux more because some of the things I had to deal with...

I dunno about Scotland but GPEW are all in on decriminalisation of all drugs.

Prediction which is blatantly obvious if you think about it:
Keir Starmer is going to resign shortly after the May elections. He will take the blame for the electoral failure but in a way which cannot possibly indict the party. He'll stay an MP and get some cushy, very well-paid job.

It may well be that some cultures are morally worse than others, but given human biases for us to try to judge that is just not going to work. And if you're trying, I am extremely suspicious of your motivations. Most of the time you don't even know the culture you're saying is "worse".

The fact that a company published a political manifesto should be seen as a gross violation of what it is to be a company.
Even before processing that it's far-right.

This is genuinely seriously concerning. It probably wouldn't be all that difficult to bypass on Linux but certainly Windows users will have problems.
Hopefully they won't impose it outside of the US.

Re: nostalgia for VHS tapes and other analog media, I saw someone say like "a VHS tape never sold my information to a nazi" and yes that's true! But the reason it's true is actually because Congress passed a law in 1988 specifically making it illegal for video stores to sell your rental history

Just been to a Green Party open mic night. The place was so packed it was spilling out into the street.
I was given a microphone and asked to speak and I am not good at that.
We've never had the capacity for an event like that. We're growing at a rate that's overwhelming in every way.
