I do draw my characters! I work incredibly slow because of injury, but I love being able to create my own visual aids. Plus I hope to use them as refs when/if I commission professional art.

(Which I hope will happen this year, I've started my piggy bank… 👀)

🗓️DAY 3 - Trial of King Charles I
23rd January 1649
The House of Commons ordered that in writs, patents, commissions, indictments, process, and proceedings in Courts of Justice, the authority of the king should be replaced by that of Parliament. Not a good sign.

To Sir W. Pen’s (though much against my will, for I cannot bear him, but only to keep him from complaint to others that I do not see him) to see how he do, and find him pretty well, and ready to go abroad again.

George Fox died on this day in 1691 at the age of 66. We know him as a brilliant preacher, networker, and a fan of good hats. We should also remember him for his incredible immune system because I’m honestly not sure how he survived prisons or transatlantic travel!

Crime and Punishment in Early Modern London and the Home Counties Crime and punishment in early modern London and the home counties is a rich area of study. Students will encounter not only the changes in the law across the period, but also the very real human stori...

I know it feels a long way off, but for those of you who think your August is missing a little early modern crime...why not sign up for the University of Oxford's summer school? I promise it will be more fun and less grim than you may think!

For those who like an early modern #cat here is a drinking vessel made in #London. On the chest is a heart-shaped cartouche inscribed with the initials "LTM" and the date 1676. You drink from between the ears. (Victoria & Albert Museum, London)
