Why Everything Is Starting to Look the Same (The Economics of Sameness) From high streets to Netflix, the same economic forces are driving culture towards sameness. Here’s why originality is under pressure.

Sadly, some cultural output succeeds, not despite being bland, but because of it. The rapid spread of algorithmic & AI content risks sending this into overdrive, creating material that is "technically accomplished and creatively inert".

Interesting piece 👇

And:

"Government sources also pointed to the fact it is not being attended by the UK and the US."

Government and civil servants uneasy over President’s choice of first overseas trip Catherine Connolly will meet Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez, but not her counterpart, the king of Spain

The comments quoted here really underline the Anglocentric priorities of Irish foreign policy at official level. For a country that presents itself as a beacon of multilateralism, and at the heart of the EU, it is frankly quite weird.

This is a very insightful article. I noticed accounts I follow for GAA, community or amusement purposes taking a quick pivot during the #fuelprotests. Complacency about the need for adults to be vigilant about our own media consumption could lead us to some dark places.

If you get a reputation for being an early riser, you can sleep in for the rest of your your days and keep that rep. These guys had their “charm” narrative fed by other powerful people and compliant journalists. It didn’t even need to be remotely true once it became received wisdom.

Genuinely saddened to hear this morning that Seán Rocks has passed on. I was something of a latecomer to Arena but greatly valued it in recent years, always learning so much from his interviews and really enjoying his warm banter with guests.

As expected, they were a very engaged and committed group who care a lot about what they do.

Complacency on the basis of poor public support is the equivalent of correctly storing the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Polls don’t matter a curse when the powerful irrevocably shift norms of governance.

LA is a now a testing ground.
