“Everybody’s using AI for everything nowadays, and if you don’t, you’re a misfit outsider who should be stoned to death in the town square, and then resurrected virtually from your data so you can be stoned to death in the virtual town square, for infinity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/04/15/o...
But shall this crazed old man be tamely suffered to drag a whole ship’s company down to doom with him?
love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region
An hour-long set of Seu Jorge singing David Bowie covers in Portuguese (from Wes Anderson's Life Aquatic) to mark the 10th anniversary of Bowie's death. "Just an acoustic guitar, a microphone, and the beautiful coastline of São Paulo." [kottke.org]

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

One of my favorite parts of author visits is the Richland Library "Off Book" recording. Here's the most recent one with @silviamg.bsky.social. We still want to know what @sgj.bsky.social thinks about his cameo in The Bewitching! youtu.be/EtL31zGFZhw?...
Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
