Great ruling.
We assume the anti-social media jawboning crowd from a few years back will wake up to applaud it.

Award-winning Kuwaiti-American journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin has been in Kuwaiti detention since March 3 for simply sharing publicly available, verified footage. Journalism is not a crime.

It’s absolutely outrageous that U.S. journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin has been jailed in Kuwait for six weeks for reposting publicly available, verifiable information.
The @state-department.bsky.social should leave no stone unturned until he is safely back home.

Congress is voting to renew FISA Section 702 — the dangerous surveillance law that lets the NSA and FBI search Americans’ calls and texts without a warrant.
Watch @trevortimm.bsky.social explain, and TELL THEM: No spying on Americans without a warrant. Period.

It is disgusting that the DOJ feels the need to continue insulting Öztürk on her way out, even after their claims about her have been definitively proven false.
These are awful people.
"I am choosing to return home as planned to continue my career as a woman scholar without losing more time to the state-imposed violence and hostility I have experienced in the United States — all for nothing more than co-signing an op-ed advocating for Palestinian rights."
"While we can’t claim the mantle of leadership right now, the U.S. can try to reclaim some dignity if the State Department fights for the immediate release of Ahmed Shihab-Eldin from detention in Kuwait," FPF's @adamrose.bsky.social told MS NOW.

Congress is currently debating whether to reauthorize Section 702 of FISA.
Any bill to renew the law must close the backdoor search loophole by requiring the gov't to get a warrant before it can search the comms of Americans.
It must also close the data broker loophole.

Even by Trump's standards, his recent attacks on the press are increasingly unhinged — threatening journalists with jail time and outlets with investigations for reporting on his disastrous war in Iran.

The Pentagon suggested Iran was responsible. But new evidence further shows tit were U.S. PrSMs (which blast thousands of tungsten pellets outwards) that killed 21 civilians in Lamerd, Iran, including a toddler and several children. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/10/w...
Israel killed three journalists in one day in Gaza and Lebanon.
This isn’t just a tragedy. It’s a pattern enabled by impunity — and by U.S. political and military backing.
Israel has killed at least 257 journalists in five countries since 2023, according to @pressfreedom.bsky.social.
We used to feel we could compete with the Times, “or best them completely, as we did in the biggest story of the late twentieth century, Watergate,” WaPo’s former managing editor and longtime reporter Robert G. Kaiser writes in @nybooks.com.

Trump's weird rant is factual and legal nonsense. That said, is he implying that CNN is under criminal investigation for its (accurate) reporting? Should Paramount shareholders be worried about acquiring a company that, according to the president, is under investigation?

Quote card from FPF Chief of Advocacy Seth Stern that reads: “Confidential sources are the lifeblood of investigative journalism. Sources who come forward at great personal risk won’t do so if they don’t trust that their identities won’t be revealed. “Some of the most important news stories in American history have come from confidential sources, including stories that have brought down corrupt presidents. That’s why Trump is so obsessed with leaks. It has nothing to do with national security.”
Journalists don’t work for the governmentt and their right to publish government leaks is protected by the First Amendment which, despite President Trump’s efforts, remains the law of the land.

So ... how's LAPD doing with that federal injunction requiring them to let press cover protests?
I went to No Kings 3 in Los Angeles to find out. Here's my report for @freedom.press about some of the disturbing things I witnessed.
LAPD obstructed, threatened, and arrested journalists covering the No Kings 3 protests — violating a federal injunction.
