Yeah, that's bad. Dumb populism.
Think about it this way: If you had a pot of cash to hand out, who would you send it to? I'm guessing you wouldn't say: “Folks who drive a lot are obviously the neediest; that's who deserves my cash.. Also, I would love to subsidize reliance on foreign oil.”

"This refinement mainly results from correcting a bias in South Atlantic surface salinity, consistent with recent studies emphasizing its role in the proximity to an AMOC tipping point. This more substantial AMOC weakening has key implications for future adaptation strategies."
"It gives an estimate of the AMOC slowdown of 51 ± 8% (90% probability), i.e., a weakening ∼ 60% stronger than suggested by the multimodel mean." www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
- Increases and prolongs reliance on fossil (so next crisis hurts even more)
- Often doesn't pass through to consumers (fossil co's just pocket it)
- Benefits enjoyed more by the rich (who drive bigger cars longer distances)
- Decreases gov't revenue so you end up paying for it in different ways
The language of climate politics matters, part 10,000.
The French government has announced the measures of its plan to accelerate electrification:
- a ban on gas boilers in new houses from the end of 2026
- increased support for replacing old heating with heat pumps
- 100 regions will pilot comprehensive heat transition plans to phase out gas by 2030

Europe’s EV market is BOOMING.
Electric car sales shot up by almost a third in the EU in Q1 2026.
There are 2 reasons why – and they don’t include the energy crisis (yet).

This is absolutely insane. When does the EU finally realise that the U.S. under Trump is an adversary? Caving in to extortion will make things much, much worse. www.politico.eu/article/fata...

Of course she has 🙄
The (far) rightwing are jumping on the fallout from Gulf Oil War 3 to call for more oil, more, gas, more greenhouse gas emissions, more global heating, more climate change, more chaos and breakdown, more violence, more oil wars.. Rinse and repeat.
Entering the #EUCO summit, 🇪🇸PM Pedro Sanchez pushes back against Meloni's push to dismantle EU climate law as a solution to the 🇺🇸🇮🇱war on Iran.
Countries with more renewables have been more shielded from these price shocks, he says. “This is strategic autonomy, this is defending Europe's interests."
Arriving at his first #EUCO summit, new Dutch PM Rob Jetten also defended #EUETS from Meloni's attacks.
"Without the ETS we would be importing billions in fossil fuels," he told reporters. Nordic leaders have also come in defending EU climate policy.
@thecccuk.bsky.social's supplementary analysis of the 7th Carbon Budget is out.
It's found that each pound invested in reaching net zero yields between £2.2 and £4.1 in benefits. By 2050, avoiding climate damages is estimated to save between £40bn to £130bn.
A smart transition just makes sense.

"Here we show that more than 99% of the evaluated impact assessments handled sea-level and land elevation data inadequately, thereby misjudging sea level relative to coastal elevation. "

The EU is undergoing Treaty change. You just weren’t supposed to notice.
5 reforms to EU law-making. No Convention. No ratification. No democratic debate.
I call it the Castle Method — and it’s constitutional drift hiding in plain sight.

“It is one thing to ask for fine-tuning [of the ETS] but to call out for basically an open-heart surgery of one of the most successful economic instruments that the Union has risks cutting the blood flow altogether,” Swedish Industry Minister Ebba Busch.
This should be code red. The ETS is the pillar of EU's climate policy. It's under heavy attack from lobby groups and center and far-right politicians. If the ETS falls, this will have enormous negative consequences for Europe and the planet as a whole. www.politico.eu/article/ital...
