The Kone Foundation @koneensaatio has awarded me a three-year grant for research on the role of the Bible in the identity construction of the Finnish Roma.
Thank you all who have helped and supported me throughout the design of this research project!

Independence day of Finland is not a bad day for a #proofsday! The book handles minoritized people and the biblical studies. It is written in language (🇫🇮) that is rather marginal in academic publishing. I have learned a lot as a co-editor of this volume 💙
Sent! 😇
We are looking for a cover image to a book that is published by the Finnish Exegetical Society - A non-profit publisher. The photo that you have taken about the Samothracian vessel in the form of a woman would work great. Yet, the book is not open access. I guess that would make it commercial usage?
My new Open Access article! For some reason it felt relevant to discuss the Bible and the LONG history of leaders telling stories about how things used to be great before moral, ethnic, urban, gender, and family corruption bigly happened. #EduSky #Election #Bible journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

We are happy to announce that AABNER 3.3 is now available, a thematic issue on Global and Local Culture in the Roman East, guest edited by Hakola and Nikki. Issue and article pdfs available from our website.
It’s time for ”article published” post!
This is what happens when you take the awesome prose of @maiakotro.bsky.social and then oversimplify things.

This year we will accept papers for three sessions. 1. We invite papers on the intersection of gender, power, and group competition. Topics might include discourses and practices of gender inclusion or exclusion, gender constructions, policing or contesting gender performances, rape culture, and related questions. 2. We seek papers that focus on modern competitions over facets of religious antiquity, especially those addressing the methods, goals, and impact of these competitions on the reception and overall understanding of the ancient world. 3. We welcome proposals on any topic related to religious competition in the ancient Mediterranean basin and late antique southwest Asia between and across all religious traditions. We are particularly keen to review proposals that focus on new approaches or methodologies to study religious competition in Late Antiquity, including Digital Humanities, for example social network analysis or digital text analysis.
It's SBL abstract time again. Here's the CFP for the Religious Competition program unit. Send your abstract our way!
This holy vessel of G&T symbolizes the doctoral defence that is now over.
Shameless self-promotion continues: my doctoral dissertation ”The Cultural Evolution of Cultic Expertise in Ephesus” is now freely downloable for each and everyone! urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978...
Unfortunately, there is a plan to close the study programme of Ancient Culture in the Uni. Helsinki. The programme focuses on ancient material culture, and I have been coordinating it. There is now a petition to continue the programme, so please sign it.
