Venmo is owned by PayPal, and today, they unveiled a feature allowing you to send and receive money to and from PayPal accounts, not just Venmo accounts.

Unfortunately, this change also allows you to look up PayPal accounts by their phone numbers and see the names attached to them.

Although this setting can be turned off on the PayPal website or app (Settings > Data and Privacy > Search Privacy), everyone is automatically opted IN.
