"I grew up in graveyards. The dead were my quiet companions. Not silent, though."
Radio 4's Book of the Week adaptation of 'A Tomb With A View' is now available in full on BBC Sounds. It features abridged versions of five chapters.

I met Catharine & Ian who were visiting from Canada at the cemetery. They were tidying the plot of Ian's Great-grandfather and I'm so glad I stopped and heard all about him.
Danielle had added Charles to FindAGrave last year with his interesting life story. π

We were asked by the Great-granddaughter of Kitty Carter if we could tidy her grave.
Her husband, Nelson, is remembered on her headstone having died in France in 1916 & he is buried at Laventie Military Cemetery.
It was wonderful to see NT Dyffryn Gardens on 'The Other Bennet Sister'. Loved hearing Wordsworth poems being included. π
Two of our volunteers have finally conquered the roots of bushes on the Chater grave. This plot has had extensive tidying over the past two years but this time even the teeny weeny roots were sifted out! π
Good morning! π
Well that's not going to last long! πΈ

Watched a compilation of Obama meeting various people the other day & he had such empathy, dignity and class. Sending love from the π¬π§.
One day we will receive the breaking news we are all praying for!
I have added 450 to date. It is quite emotional but so rewarding. I have been able to link some of them with their parents on FindAGrave & also contacted folk so they can added to their family trees. Of the 450 only one has a photo - meet Artie Emily Hoad (1888-1897).
My personal project at the cemetery is researching all the unmarked graves for babies & children. We are fortunate in that we have transcripts of the burial registers We have 4 sections at the moment where these plots are.
Once researched I record them on FindAGrave so they are remembered. (1)
Good day from FoOC!
Our volunteers are reappearing for work parties in the cemetery again. Personally I need it a tad warmer so will carry on doing research indoors this weekend! π
Cose-up of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission headsstone marking the burial place of Drummer Sam Wadswoth. Either side of the headstone there are yellow daffodils in bloom.
Remembering Sam, son of Harry and Irene Wadsworth of Southowram Bank, Halifax. Drummer in the 4th Battalion, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. Sam died at Shelf Sanatorium on 7th March 1918, aged 18 years.

A name that caught my attention whilst at the cemetery was that of John Evelyn Trollope (1856-1929).
I started researching his life in the hope he was related to the authors, Anthony & Joanna.
See our FB group to see if he was.... π

Looks snug! We have actually had no rain today and our town lived up to the name of Suntrap of the South! βοΈ
Good day from the Suntrap of the South! βοΈ
Ideal day for taking photos of headstones to research and upload to FindAGrave. π
Julia, one of our volunteers, researched Major-General Sir John Drummond Inglis KBE, CB, MC. who she thinks may be the most decorated man in our cemetery.
She has added his life story to FindaGrave.
