No child should ever be detained.
The Government should be prioritising safeguarding this extremely vulnerable group, many of whom are survivors of trafficking and abuse, and protecting them from more harm. Instead, the Government have enabled it.
🚨 Unaccompanied and separated kids are held for months, often over a year, in ORR facilities without lawyers. They are cut off from family and must face life changing court decisions alone.
Congress must act NOW. Demand an end to indefinite detention. #ChildhoodOnHold

Thank you, @jayapal.house.gov, for calling out the harm children face in immigration court and for your leadership in pushing for due process.
Children should never be forced to navigate complex legal proceedings alone, especially in a language they may not understand.
Thank you, @repdexteror.bsky.social for your leadership. Children cannot heal in detention. What they need are safe placements, legal support, and systems that protect their well-being and uphold their rights.
Thank you, @reppaultonko.bsky.social, for your leadership in calling attention to the harm prolonged detention causes children. Detention is not care, and every day a child remains there deepens instability and trauma. Children deserve due process and protection that centers their best interests.
Immigrant children should not have to choose between an education and their sense of safety.
For decades, schools were recognized as sensitive locations to help protect students from immigration enforcement.

UK asylum rules just changed.
This means:
➡️ Refugee status cut from 5 yrs to 2.5 yrs with repeated reviews
➡️ Up to 20 yrs before permanent settlement
➡️ Applies to all new claims after March 2026
KIND will continue to fight for children's rights despite these changes.
