Speaking to me in German, nice!

I have emailed you and will happily conduct a serious and reasoned discussion there. You publicly wading in to support the argument of an anon account playing around with antisemitic tropes isn't really going to get us anywhere.

And you didn't answer my question either Jonathan, two can play at this game. But only one of us, in fact, rowing in behind an anon account playing around with antisemitic tropes.

Think that's known as "Jewish Supremacy" over on Stormfront

You're really going to row in behind this? You really think that threatening to deport Jews for having dual loyalties is the same as suggesting an extension to settlement paths for recent visa holders? I'm genuinely very surprised.

3 weeks ago 0 0 4 0

Sorry yes you're right, deporting British Jews on the basis of dual loyalty allegations is totally the same as extending settlement paths to citizenship for recent visa holders. I concede.

Nice

It's odd to throw around such overheated accusations while also claiming to be the serious rational evidence-based guy.

Hopefully we'll meet in person at some point and discuss this sensibly, as your approach here is pretty unreasonable.

I think these are tough and complex decisions with clear downsides too. It's frustrating that, mainly due to badly designed Tory policy, we've ended up having this debate and potentially applying these retrospective changes, which will be harsh.

Who on earth is suggesting they don't have a right to respond? If you read the piece, it quotes several Labour MPs who are angry about the reforms and suggests they may well be diluted as a result.

It's there in the piece: "plummeting"

It's a large majority of British voters including a large majority of Labour voters

Two things can be true at once, not that hard. And no it wasn't "dictated by a Home Office spad". People are capable of developing their own opinions, there's no need to make patronising ad hominem remarks to undermine my integrity (something you've also done several times before).

You deliberately misconstrue the point as ever. It's perfectly possible to argue that 1) people feel we've had too much legal migration in recent years 2) we should mitigate the effects of that by extending settlement periods and 3) we are unlikely to have too much legal migration in future

‘Swiss cheese’ Brexit reset will be a nightmare on repeat Events are pushing Britain and the EU together. But it’s a painful and expensive process

Incredibly balanced, sensible and realistic column this week by @joshglancy.bsky.social. It is nice for a British writer to appear in a British paper and reflect on the EU side of this conversation for once.

Labour's realignment with the EU will be slow, painful and expensive. But they are right to do it anyway, because Brexit isn't working

Glad you liked the piece David. Not sure what made its appearance ironic?

Wasn't the broad conversation post-election about the "loveless landslide" and "wide but shallow majority"? This was quite a focal point, at least in my neck of the woods

On a very narrow bridge, pride, dread and doubt jostle for space In an era where nations simply “do things”, courage and recklessness look perilously alike

How do I feel about the war in Iran? Like I'm on a very, very narrow bridge.

🧵In today’s Times @joshglancy.bsky.social has a brilliant write up of our focus groups he sat in on. Definitely read it in full! But I want to focus on two voters: Kylie & Eve I think have outsized importance in explaining today’s politics

I think that specific confluence of factors has made the British public particularly furious and fed up and impatient with its political class and leadership.

I'm sure quality of politicians is a factor too, thought that may also be true elsewhere I don't know.

Well you always know best!

I mean obviously there's no monocause. But if you take Campbell's point and add in the specifics of our media environment, our exposure to GFE + austerity + Brexit + particularly high inflation + various migration issues, I think it helps explain why most PMs flopping fast.

Jonathan, feel free to insult my journalism as you have several times before. But please don't undermine the livelihoods of the many people who work at my newspaper by posting free links.

The Holocaust survivor judge who issued Netanyahu’s arrest warrant Theodor Meron, still going strong at 95, escaped the Nazis with his father and became a serious force in international law, helping to found the ICC

Theodor Meron survived the Holocaust, found refuge in Israel, helped set up the ICC, then aged 93 indicted Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes. He stands by his decision.

It was fascinating to interview him
