Today was the 1st annual Dallas Area Worm Groups (DAWGS) meeting, hosted by Dr. Alicia Rogers at UT Arlington, supported by her NSF CAREER award. It was great to see colleagues, share my work in a talk, tour Salman Sohrabi's lab, and have my students present their work—UG Rikki Umanzor won an award!

My masters student Omma Honey won third place at the TWU Celebration of Science poster presentations! Attendees voted on their favorite presenters. I’m proud of Honey’s ability to convey our work and field in an accessible, enthusiastic way such that her audience took the extra step to vote for her!

This week, the TWU School of the Sciences (SotT) gave me the Heart Award because of the positive feedback students had given the person who picked the winner. I am very grateful for this recognition, and thankful to those who came up to me afterward to tell me it was well deserved.

Congrats to the winners of the #Worm25 poster competition!

Thanks to all students who entered (285) — such great research!

Thanks to all poster judge volunteers who judged presenters (220 postdocs and faculty!)

Given >1200 attendees, that’s a high % who participated in this competition!

My favorite part about #Worm25 (aside from all the great science) is getting to meet so many clients for the first time IRL and not in a Zoom window! Thanks @drgtwu.bsky.social for visiting and sending some new folks our way at InVivo Biosystems! 🪱🧬

Staten Island biologist fears her lab is at risk due to Trump’s cuts Cathy Savage-Dunn's $1.9M grant-funded research on cell communication is uncertain amid Trump cuts to the National Institutes of Health.

C. elegans #worm25 organizer, collaborator, mentor, and friend Cathy Savage-Dunn tells her story and how NIH supports her work and her community, in light of the recent NIH funding changes. We need more of this public-facing news. Thanks, Cathy!
