This is what “keep the fire going” looks like: bad news that could make people shut down, and real acts of care that refuse to let the community go cold. Mariame Kaba’s line is the anchor here: “Hope is a discipline.” Not a mood. Not a vibe. A practice.
Judge blocks DOJ subpoenas targeting Powell.
Medicaid data shared with immigration authorities.
Even as we stack the wood here at home to keep our neighbors warm, the wind blowing across the porch is coming from a much larger front. Here are some national stories you may have missed:
MN veteran homelessness hits historic low.
Livestream raises $280K for rent aid.
Judge orders father released after warrantless detention.
Somali TPS temporarily blocked from ending.
When the wood is damp and the draft is cold, it takes a specific kind of persistence to keep the embers from going out entirely. Here are some reasons to hope:
Former ICE attorney calls surge “chaos.”
Drone sightings deepen surveillance fears.
St. Paul raid case ends in deportation.
Stauber’s “Stop Fraud by SOMALIA Act” draws backlash.
I grew up with a wood stove. Heat isn't a dial, it’s a debt you pay in advance with chopping firewood. Staying informed is the same. It’s easy to focus briefly and call it enough, until you realize the woodpile needed more work.
