By WW2, warfare had moved on from walled fortresses being impregnable.

Surely it's normal for an investigation and prosecution to occur where the alleged crime took place?

Why why why hasn't the Onion done a tourist marketing campaign for Trump's USA? List of the cities where you're least likely to be disappeared? Beach resorts that will certify your tan so you're not arrested as a Mexican...........

Are there any good open-source password managers you would recommend?

It would be interesting to ask the mother what she would say if she were to pretend to be pro-vax for a moment. Would she know enough to do so?

I grew up in South A Africa (which mines diamonds) and lived in Europe. Both places prize smaller gems with better clarity. The US values size only.

If I have had to pay to make by vehicle accessible for more people, surely I am justified in charging more? I worry that "caring" legislation, be it employment, accessibility etc. is secretly driving up costs.

There are people who identify most strongly as citizens of the world. There are people who live in NYLON (New York/London) and there are people whose strongest identity is an online social community. We are not one thing.

Misleading headlines
I live in a small country, but I follow a lot of international news. Headline writers: PLEASE include the country you are referring to if you are not referring to something global. Just say "US Inflation/UK Inflation". You can make billions of people happier.

OK, why is that important?

If I was arrested by ICE or in a protest, I would immediately lie down. I wouldn't fight the officers, but I'm certainly not cooperating with them either. Why don't more people do this? (I'm assuming there is a good reason).

Hanging out to dry: I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this, but my feed is full of responses to - something. They make no sense without any context. Can Bluesky please just tuck them neatly inside that conversation stream?

Doing what the other guy did because you think you have the moral high ground is just as WRONG as when the other guy did it. This is kindergarten ethics.

Wild animals don't need rabies to be wild. They are faster than you think and can be more aggressive than you think.

Be aware of your neighbours' security as well:
If your security is just a little better than your neighbour's, their house becomes the target.
Shared walls are often a weak point. Your big front wall is wasted if a thief can hop over the neighbour's little fence and then hop into your property.

To be fair, there is very little commentary about how wonderful worklife is for any gender - and lots telling you it's toxic.

How prevalent is corruption if $75,000 is an acceptable number? In a risk-benefit analysis, they must think the risk of consequences is pretty low. I am doing NOTHING until I have enough to live out my life in a non-extradition country when the whole thing implodes.

The EU AI Act kicked in on 1 August. It places extra responsibilities on employers who use AI in relation to staff and job applicants. Has anyone seen any changes at their work as a result? I haven't hear a peep.

I used to see articles outlining how the advent of AI in business would promote the need for more soft skills. I don't seem to see these articles or demand for these skills these days.

Ukraine was given similar guarantees when they gave up their nuclear weapons. They were meaningless.

There are many ways to build an AI, but American vendors have chosen the one which requires the most physical resources. AI is a thirsty beast, but it didn't have to be this bad.

Couldn't we just be " schmitten"? It just sounds so much nicer.

I would be surprised if Australia didn't already have such legislation. It's just toothless in every country.

This reflects a clash of mindsets between those whose pets are their "children" and farm folk whose animals are livestock (to over-simplify).
It's another version of our love of meat but our hatred of abbatoirs.

Two questions ' What is Iran's objection and how will it block the proposal? Is any part of the corridor actually in Iran?
