I love to see advocacy turning into action.
1 month after @uytaelee.bsky.social and @wearehub.bsky.social released The Bike Share Dilemma we have a motion to Vancouver City Council to help fix the problem. Thank you @seanorr.bsky.social and @lucymaloney.bsky.social 💚

A great little critique bike racks... Did he miss any?
Here is the pertinent portion of the video that councillor Lenny Zhou posted to WeChat, where he makes allegations of the drug use of opposition councillors
(we’re working on an exact translation)
A portion of the Strøget pedestrian street in Copenhagen that widens into a grand people-place.
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
Fired on the spot based on sloganeering. This is no way to run a city.
I guess being 30th out of 30 demonstrates how quickly Vancouver is being left behind.
There’s still time to let council know what you think of the proposed 2026 “zero means zero” budget
Budget presentation and speakers begin Nov 12, more info and deadline below

A white and green graphic. The top, over the white, is the logo for Canada's National Observer and the headline, "Vancouver mayor plans to eliminate city's climate and sustainability department" by Marc Fawcett-Atkinson & Natasha Bulowski from Nov. 10. On the green is a quote from Vancouver City Councillor from the Vancouver Green Party, Pete Fry, saying, "It's 100 per cent ideologically motivated. What is incredibly frustrating about this is the lack of integrity or courage for them to come out and say what it is they're intending to do. They're trying to be sneaky with this, and it will blow up in their face."
Still want Vancouver to be the Greenest City? Apparently, Ken Sim and ABC don't.
Saving a few bucks to the city will come at an even greater cost down the line.

People in a protected bike-lane in downtown Vancouver.
A complete, connected, comfortable network of protected bike-lanes is a climate mitigation strategy. It’s a healthy cities strategy. It’s a social equity strategy. It’s an affordability strategy. It’s an economic devt strategy. It’s a smart mobility & space saving strategy.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Etc.
At the Vancouver Park board Meeting on Nov 3rd Vote4ABC Commissioner Angela Haer interrupts the land acknowledgement. It all felt very "All Lives Matter" Is this Mayor Ken Sim's official policy? #vanpoli #parkboard
Myself, Lucy Maloney, and Pete Fry dressed as the Vancouver coat of arms for Halloween! I’m a logger, Pete is a fisherman, and Lucy is the crest!
By sea, land, and air we wish you a happy Halloween! @ptfry.bsky.social @lucymaloney.bsky.social
Washington really representing here!
This is great, police on ATV's clearing beaches of picnickers at 10pm at the height of summer was so heavy-handed.
“Once rare, 7-year car loans are fast becoming the norm. They’re often the only way buyers can afford new rides, with average sale prices surging 28% in 5 years to approach $50k.”
Designed-in car dependency, surging car prices, longer loan periods with more interest.
Sound like “freedom” to you?
Europe on road to hell
More than 80% of protected habitats are in a poor or bad state, with “unsustainable” consumption and production patterns driving loss of wildlife
EU’s “carbon sink” declined by 30% in a decade as logging, wildfires and pests damage forests

Wait, what?!
I fully support a blanket rezoning of the city to allow for six-story apartments in any street in the city on any standard size lot. Allowing this type of development will unleash the potential of small and medium developers to build the missing middle housing we do desperately need.
After 3 years, the Stanley Park Mobility Study has been released. You can read it here: parkboardmeetings.vancouver.ca/2025/2025091...
It is very, very underwhelming. A return of a separated bike lane is contemplated, but not specifically recommended, in the 7-15 year timeframe.

@tomdigby1.bsky.social great job getting this back on the agenda!

What’s the REAL reason Pierre Poilievre won’t get the normal security clearance that everyone in his position gets?
1. His bad excuse —he wants to be able to level uninformed political attacks unburdened by actual information?
2. The worse possibilty that he knows he can’t pass the security check?
Elon, Don, Bibi and Pipi. What a team they will make.
You have my full support! Looking forward to seeing you on council!
NEW: NOAA employees were ordered to give an engineer from Elon Musk's DOGE task force access to all of the agency's Google sites by the end of business Wednesday.
Nothing in the engineer's background suggests any special expertise relevant to his new role.
Humm... I thought the Downtown BIA was stacked with Old Spaghetti Factory peeps who had their hair on fire about the Water street pedestrian zone test.
