tbf I'm his age and played a fair amount of NES (which my parents bought before I was born) and SNES as a kid even after we got a N64. There was a lot of console gen overlap in the 90's!

And that's not including the non-Nintendo consoles (which we didn't have so I didn't note them).

I wanted to say "We need JRPGs with mega churches and prosperity gospel." But tbh Eulmore in Shadowbringers kind of has that vibe already.

I understand why Japanese media loves to use the Catholic Church as an allegorical, aesthetic inspiration! It has a long history, political powers, grand wealth, elements of mysticism, and it played a massive role in Western art history.

But some denominations are mundane. It'd be funny to see.

Give me a JRPG where the Church Bad is a mundane Midwestern Lutheran church with its basement potlucks, grandmas with perms, and talk of the weather.

I want to add that there's an almost Mormon element to Living Memory and Alexandria's (lack of) grieving, as well.
