Louisville would have never funded affordable housing at current levels without the support of CLOUT. It’s wonderful to be at the Nehemiah Action Assembly and see CLOUT pushing for more funding for affordable housing, including permanent supportive housing.

KY lawmakers could still pass a housing bill but its prospects are complicated • Kentucky Lantern Kentucky's legislature can still vote on a housing bill when it returns Tuesday and Wednesday to override vetoes and wrap up this year’s session.

Senate Bill 9 has gotten way too little attention. While parts are good, it would void short term rental regulations in place in Louisville since 2015, a huge problem for many neighborhoods and a move in the wrong direction for our housing shortage. kentuckylantern.com/2026/04/13/k...

Here we go again. Local ordinances on short term rentals - including rules in place in Louisville for more than a decade - apparently under attack in Frankfort, without opportunity for public input or debate. It’s the latest in a string of efforts restricting the city’s ability to govern itself.

Congratulations to House of Ruth on the ribbon cutting for Red Key Landing, 40 units of permanent supportive housing in Louisville’s Shelby Park neighborhood. The project was funded in large part with an appropriation of American Rescue Plan dollars by Metro Council on November 11, 2021.

Kentucky’s House Bill 338 needs your support TODAY, before a hearing on Wednesday.

The bill will make it easier to get people into housing by automatically expunging dismissed eviction records.

Please call 1-800-372-7181 and leave a message for House Judiciary Committee members to support HB 338.

Great to see new affordable housing in the Shawnee neighborhood dedicated today. It’s funded in part with $5.4 Million in American Rescue Plan dollars Louisville Metro Council appropriated to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund in 2021.

Family demands answers after Louisville woman killed during alley cleanup The death of 35-year-old Tyrah Adams last week has left the family with more questions than answers.

“Statements from city officials about how Adams was killed have been vague, with one early statement from Louisville police saying she died after ‘coming into contact’ with a garbage truck.”

Trump has been having the same fight about sanctuary cities for 10 years. Winning it may not be the point. - The Boston Globe President Trump has been largely rebuffed by the courts each time he’s attempted to punish Democratic cities and states.

“He keeps coming back and doing the same thing over and over again and the same lawsuit or policy that’s been blocked a million times….He doesn’t care if it’s as effective at changing their policy, he just wants to make the point politically.” www.bostonglobe.com/2026/02/07/n...

Trump presses sanctuary cities to work with ICE, but few are budging Cities like Boston, Chicago and Portland are facing the threat of lawsuits and federal troop takeovers. But leaders in most sanctuary cities are not compromising on protecting immigrants.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged his counterparts from other American cities this week to take a firm stand against the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement campaign and received raucous applause. Louisville is the only city in the country to capitulate to some Trump demands.

Two lobbyists made more than $1 million lobbying the Kentucky General Assembly last year • Kentucky Lantern Two lobbyists made more than $1 million lobbying the Kentucky General Assembly last year

Louisville’s first lobbying ordinance was enacted in November 2022. It called for online access to reports - as is common in cities our size - but Metro has never followed through and access to reports is difficult. Lobbying is ongoing but transparency is lacking. kentuckylantern.com/2026/01/23/t...

Governor Andy Beshear:
To preserve the American Dream of owning a home, Kentucky needs a big, bold investment now. I'm proposing a game-changing $150 million investment in Kentucky's Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
Combined with private funding, it will create $1 billion in new housing.

Nashville's free bus ride program off to strong start A pass lasts for three years and provides free rides on WeGo buses.

Last year, Nashville voters approved a bold plan and half-cent sales tax for improved buses, sidewalks and traffic and it’s now resulting in free bus rides for the poor, among many other things. “Choose How You Move” is a highly successful initiative of a new Mayor. www.axios.com/local/nashvi...

Metro Council advances $1.2B incentive for Churchill Downs renovations If passed, a Metro Council resolution would approve up to $1.2B in industrial revenue bonds to help Churchill Downs finance racetrack renovations.

Under the proposal, Churchill Downs would pay no Louisville Metro or Urban Services District property taxes for an expanded list of properties for decades to come, continuing a program started in 2002 when the track and the company were much different. www.courier-journal.com/story/news/p...
