It's a light silk gauze. Definite swoosh potential.

Tbh I'm already worrying about people not finding the specific thing they're looking for in the Guide, but hoping they will be dazzled by what they do find instead 🀣. This is not the fabric you were looking for, but here's a better one, such as tiffany, love, or zephyrine!

The new book A Guide To Regency Dress has so! many! images! I'm nearly done, but keep getting distracted by more juicy details of dress and textiles I want to share. I've found an excellent illustration of the much rarer male Spencer, for example, and can show you what gros de Tours fabric was.

Some new book updates!

It's going to be called A Guide To Regency Dress: From Corsets and Breeches to Bonnets and Muslins.

Out October in the UK and worldwide, November in the US.

It's full of images I've never used in the previous books, and some that have never been published.

Took advantage of the email drop off to finally add the most recent batch of #C18th patterns onto my website. There are now 269 originally needlework designs freely available on the Lady's Magazine website: ladysmagazine.omeka.net Rather fond of this gentleman's neck handkerchief...

It's HEEEEE-EEEERRRRRRREEEE!!!!!!!

The one, the only, the iconic, the emblematic scene of this and all other Austen adaptations; 'the scene that changed everything', as the BBC called it. And we're gonna deep dive (ha!) into it.

A Jane Austen Christmas - Yale University Press London Blog What did Jane Austen wear to church on Christmas Day? Why did clothes make good gifts? Learn about regency fashion – with a festive twist – on our blog.

It's got very chilly here in New York, so in the interests of keeping others feeling cosy, please enjoy this piece on Jane Austen and Christmas I wrote in 2019 when the first book Dress in the Age of Jane Austen was published.

I would like to announce that I have a third book on Regency dress in the works. *Not* centred on Jane Austen, this one's a general guide to clothing, hair, jewellery and textiles of Britain c. 1795-1820, out October 2025, again with the wonderful @yalebooks.bsky.social. More details as they arrive!
