Beat this for the first time tonight, but its magic was in childhood co-op, even if they led to Game Overs.

Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!”
Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?”
Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.”
Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”

I think about things like this every time I see someone suggest that people won't have to review LLM-generated code soon.

"Brother Thomas, you know what it says in the Bible about not forgiving people."
"Why don't you tell us all what it says, brother Hezakiah?"
"It's, uh, it's against it."

Y'know, los bros Hernandez both said something to that effect in an interview way back when. They know they need something to happen between "thing I just drew" and "next thing," so, eh... leave it blank till you figure it out. Their pacing is legendary.

The use of "It's the beginning of a new and excitingly different story" here got me searching, because I only know that sample from the Chrono Trigger Acid Jazz Remix. Turns out to be from the Superman radio show. "This story is true," indeed.

Black characters are taking on more prominent roles in the panels we read, and more Black creators are shaping their stories behind the scenes. But what of the creatives who came before? We go through the decades, looking back on comics by Black creators: shelfdust.com/black-comics...

Frieren (season one, pre fallout with Crunchyroll) was amazing at cutting through young viewers' "but I haven't caught up!" impulses. The whole premise is based on joining mid-adventure.

I got into Robotech, DBZ, and Ranma at random starting points and did fine. Not that a clear-cut Volume/Episode 1 isn't convenient, but jumping into a story river where it meets you can be a rewarding experience.

A very nice write up of a very nice series—perfectly nails the series appeal and the mention of liminal spaces (of both this series and budding romance as itself a liminal space) was really insightful.

More anime fans should check out the DVD section of their local library. You'd be surprised some of the cool stuff you can find there that is out-of-print and not streaming on any platform. For example, my library has all of Baccano (one of my all-time favorites).

An email from kym Deyn

The subject line is GREETINGS UNDERLINGS

the email reads: Kym, you say. Kym, why are you organising another social gathering through email? Is it the 1990's? What's next, paging us? LOOK HERE YOU LITTLE SHITS.

None of you are on the same socials. [Redacted] doesn't have socials, Jay won't use Whatsapp, and I don't have some of you on Signal. This is on you. Also?? I like emails. I'm sorry, I know that's hard to hear, but its true. They're like little letters, except I don't have to pay for stamps. Have you seen the price of stamps? Everyone is just using email wrong. It's not about giving best regards, its about being a little freak.

I have finally received an email worth receiving, for the first time in my miserable email-riddled existence.
