These fucking people.

The bad guys win when we let them divide us
I guarantee you, there is a non-sexually assaulting progressive Millennial or Gen Z person with a smattering of charisma in every district where there is an inert, fat cat establishment mayor or representative. Take every seat.
Maybe quit voting for their fucking bills then? Maybe quit confirming their nominees? Maybe shut down the Senate with the many procedural tools available to you? Maybe do something other than send sternly worded letters?

70 cars vs 1,000 bikes
Hello! The US housing market has gotten very expensive, but I still dream of one day owning a home in a walkable neighborhood. In that spirit, I'm offering my consulting services. If you support the Trump tariffs, I can help you find US suppliers. Let me show you some examples. 🧵
Sometimes I'm commuting and some person on an e-bike passes me and will sheepishly apologize for "cheating" and I'm like, look around, we are surrounded by a crawling ocean of miserable people driving short distances in 5000 pound SUVs, you are winning not cheating.
Reskeeting with alt text because “Tesla in Distressla” is the second funniest thing I’ve heard today
“The MTA as a whole is averaging 448K more public transit riders per day this year…The MTA ridership growth since congestion pricing went into effect is almost 50% larger than the total ridership of America’s next-largest subway system.” bettercities.substack.com/p/congestion...
😎
"Free" parking -- at home or at work -- makes people more likely to travel by car.
Study: "Households with bundled parking are more likely to drive, and less likely to use transit."

Rest in peace Professor Shoup.
The man, the myth, the legend. Write your city council and encourage them to raise parking prices in his honor this weekend.
That clawing sound you hear is decongestion pricing climbing out of the “valley of political death.”
Cities are cities! While administrative and political differences exist, cities are collections of people in urban areas that are more similar than different. Admitting this can lead to excellent lessons learned from around the globe!
A watershed moment for the US, and he most important urban transportation reform of my lifetime.
Congrats to all the activists, planners, and policymakers who made this possible.

Ya love to see it! A true testament to the phrase “trust the process.”
Oh hey Cambridge this looks like a bike lane you’d see in Copenhagen! Raised bike lane, curbside parking and bus drop off, surface level transition at the intersection 👌🏼
people tell me nobody bikes on arterials but when the arterial is the most direct and flat route, and is where planners legalize all other uses besides housing, don’t they have to use them?
Never in the history of cars have they been given public space and they did not demand more.
Urbanist couple vacation walks: guessing how many units exist based on the footprint of the bldg then confirming via mailboxes, doorbells and electric meters.
Portland, ME: little difference in bulk between a single-unit and a 4-plex. And look at those 5 and 8-plexes! @tunameltzer.bsky.social
holy crap look at the progress paris has made on urban pollution in 15 years
A total of 155,939 passengers rode the 3.5 hour, 235-mile journey between Miami and Orlando on Brightline last month, a 67% increase from November 2023. Trips on the route routinely sell out.
This is exactly how a bike lane network should be conceptualized…in the same design language and typology of that city’s public transportation network and with connectivity to subways, busses, LRT etc.
Once again, Paris is leading the way.
Photo of bike lane and sidewalk with construction accommodations
Seattle! I haven’t seen this level of bike and ped accommodation during construction anywhere else I’ve traveled in the US and reminds me of what you see in Copenhagen.
In a 1972 study, Donald Appleyard showed how traffic rates influence social interactions & friendships.
People living on HEAVY TRAFFIC streets;
0.9 Friends
3.1 acquaintances
People living on LIGHT TRAFFIC streets;
3.0 friends
6.3 acquaintances
Prioritize people over traffic.
