If AI wipes out entry/mid-level creative work, who’ll invest years mastering a craft? We risk a generation losing connection to art—not by choice, but by design. If we don’t act with intention now, we may not like the culture we wake up in 10 years.

AI promises to free up time. But what if it spares us from learning, writing, painting and exploring the world? | Joseph Earp If I reduced my existence to a series of ChatGPT prompts, the act of my living is only shorter – not better

"If you outsource your creative work to a computer, you are not a creative. Someone who merely churns out product is not an artist – they are a salesperson. The artist is the person who makes, not who has made."

Looney Bird by Snowfrog A Looney Tunes inspired Flappy Bird clone

My first complete game where I've made all of the art and music. Yeah, it's a Flappy Bird clone, but still feels like a milestone for me. First crappy game down... many more to go. 😁

Like, what's the point of painstakingly learning or building anything if in 2 years from now some 12 year old living in a cave somewhere can put me out of business by simply prompting Grok to "build and deploy a clone of Phil's project but make it slightly better and cheaper".

Am I the only one who feels a little like just going into hibernation while the world is done figuring out if AI is mostly 🐂💩 or if it's actually going to get rid of 70% of jobs and put us all on universal income?

Most of your app’s cross cutting concerns should be policies.

What’s a policy?

JavaScript/TypeScript is actually really good Stop listening to those who say you can’t write good code in JavaScript. Let’s look at Javascript and TypeScript in a positive way instead, because JS/TS is actually really good!

New blog post; Pointing out the things I've come to really love about JS/TS over the years.

Back in the 90s and 00s, you could always name a few AAA studios in their prime who you’d say were the elite developers that you'd be lucky to work with. At various times Blizzard, DICE, Naughty Dog, Bungie, Valve, etc.

Who is that today? Does any such company exist any more? If not, why not?

In general, the genres I listen to the most tend to be hard rock, metal, punk, grunge... that sort of thing.

But while coding I usually find myself listening to new retro wave. I really like a band called "Gunship". I know, it's weird.

Trying to make a little roguelite hack n' slash for @github.com's #GameOff 2024. Never realized how much more complicated melee combat is to implement compared to projectiles. I'm drowning in hurtboxes, hitboxes and state transitions. 🎯

One of the most common advice given to aspiring game developers is "don't build your own game engine".

I don't listen.
