THANK YOU: "Also: Pro-tip to Americans: Please stop saying "Guac" when you order guacamole in your burrito at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Whenever you utter this abbreviation a little Nahuatl speaking kitten (and its Mexican Spanish-speaking best friend) somewhere dies."
Thanks!!
What is the Nahuatl meaning? I faintly remember reading somewhere that it relates to testicle. How bad is my memory?

Modern-day Mayans should sue the creators of Mutant Teenage Ninja Turtles, just saying... where's lawyer Jackie Chiles when he's needed?
Pleased to share a new article from my Phd student Jorge Ruiz-Arocho that examines how #cropdomestication and #nitrogen #fertilization affects #leaf traits for #maize, #beans, and #squash. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
We all know that domestication centers were literally paradise and people had lots of leisure time, so why not?
Ancient domesticor women were into sequencing?
Spraying insecticides is expensive and messy with all the mud and stuff. Why not add insecticide to the water in the paddy fields? We mean, what could go wrong, right?

Thanks!! The one near Ixtlan sounds promising... I was in Coapan (behind Ceboruco volcano) near Jala and Ixtlan and was told that there's teocintle in the hills above the town. Acaponeta may be a stretch, but still plausible. Also, west of Ixtlan there's plenty of teocintle along the Ameca river...
Please share if you remember the names before I Google myself into a rabbit hole 😂
Oh, and the basin is key... though there is teocintle further towards coast, lower elevation, up to ~1800 m for annual species, maize ancestor
Yes, post-conquest for the "illa" suffix, a diminutive, chico - chiquillo, bonito-bonitillo
I've noticed over the years that place names that include "milpillas" usually have teocintle, e.g., La Paz de Milpillas... milpilla is used for teocintle, as in milpa-like, milpa being a maize plant...
Thanks!! Seems pretty far into sierra, do the people mention "milpilla"? Or any Milpilla place names nearby?
Where is this? Thinking of maize and teocintle
A clear signal of reduced genetic diversity in invasive western corn rootworm populations associated with slightly reduced genetic loads, marginal evidence of purging for deleterious mutations, and in one pop moderately deleterious variants weakly purged
