4/20/1861: Thaddeus S. C. Lowe got very high as he rose above Cincinnati in his experimental hot air balloon to fly to Washington D.C. He unfortunately landed in Unionville, SC. whereupon he was arrested under the suspicion of being a Yankee spy. Luckily he proved his innocence and was released.

It was a great landing by the pilot! I’d take that spot if the situation warrants it.
Not every day you see a random hot air balloon when you’re driving home from work.
And this was not an emergency, either. News routinely gets it wrong. It was a good place and the pilot was able to have it walked to the street to deflate it.
