i'm not sure what unison-lang.org does for circular structures (all the data structures in the language are merkleised, including functions), but i assume they treat it similarly

you can equivalently view this kind of swizzling for circularity as just providing a fixpoint combinator: fix(λx. cons("foo", x))
so you can de bruijn encode these kinds of things, and similarly treat non-circular linking as function application ("dependency injection")
