also, does NYT imagine that an academic and a director of non-blockbuster, festival movies are very rich? Intelligentsia contributes to their children success in other ways, such as good education and connections

I will ask him, if he talked with the ombudsperson, thanks a lot! No intention breaking the agreement, but maybe MPI can grant a waiver if there are no Ru affiliations + there is a statement that the 1st author did all the work prior to spring 2025. I know that physics paper were published this way

O yeah, same as taking affiliations off, and even better, if EMBl would allow it. But still I would first get advice from someone in MPI if this would be ok for them

(No, regarding the publication, not other options, like no affiliations for Ru authors)

In my capacity as an export representative, I require a statement from you confirming that you have no further connections to Russian universities.

No further publications with Russian universities or scientific institutions are planned or forthcoming. The most recent publications date from spring 2025.

The statement that he signed looks like this.
I think that us taking off our affiliations would maybe be ok, but he will require a waiver, and it is not clear how to get that (the representative in his Uni just said, no, you can't)

I undertand that as long as he is connected to Max Plank he cannot publish no matter the affiliation if they won't permit it.

Need a bit of advice from colleagues in Germany, especially MPI. I have a former student who moved to Germany from Russia for his Masters. We have a preprint, which was not yet published. MPI/his Uni made him sign a statement that he would not publish with Russian institutes 1/n

Of course the most probable way this ends that the article will stay a preprint until the war ends and relations normalize. Which is ok. But maybe somebody knows if there is a way to resolve this w/o causing problems for the student's career in Germany, but also getting him a deserved publication

So now the preprint can't be published. He offered to take his name out, but he is the first author, and I cannot agree to that. His institute said that he cannot publish, but I don't know if this means that there are no options. The Ru coauthors are ready for example to publish without affiliations
