🚨NEW DISINFO PAPER🚨 TLDR; disinformation circulates as narratives, not false facts. This paper took five years (!!!) and a rotating cast of collaborators and GRAs. Our case studies include the pee tape, and we have an entire appendix justifying that. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
A main difference is whether institutional validation (by science, courts, journalism) is considered relevant. Most people think so, conspiracy theorists don't.
“I am not a conspiracy theorist, but . . .” @cbaden.bsky.social, Nina Springer, Nina Steindl and I analyze how conspiracy theories are discussed in mainstream forums. ijoc.org/index.php/ij...

Why do people who oppose conspiracy theories help disseminate them? That is one key question in the new article "Opposing Yet Still Disseminating Conspiracy Theories", written by myself and Luna Gao and published in @socialmedia-soc.bsky.social.

Mazal Tov with this new adventure! May Birmingham welcome you warmly! We (OPINION) will come visit and check on you in April :)
Look, it is our special issue :)
The last funny thing I saw were some journals that were named identically with major Q1 journals but published in Kolkata, Johannesburg, etc., by predatory publishers. There is even a Journal of Communication there somewhere. Someone who "published" there applied for a program... 😳
Hm if not the study, at least the fraud was original... 🤔
item is gone... what was there?
Awesome news, huge congrats, Daniela! And to WI, they will be so lucky to have you!
I made a decision tree...
Thanks a lot, Curd!
That was definitely the ambition. 🙃
📜Fresh off the press: Annett Heft, @michaelvaughan.bsky.social, Barbara Pfetsch & I attempted to find a level for defining social media affordances that permits conceptualizing differences between platforms and uses, and is thus useful for theory building.

Public opinion happens on digital media, but it's very different from what we see in surveys. Here's how:
doi.org/10.1093/ijpo...
10 members of the pan-European OPINION network put together to discuss how we can understand public opinion processes in a digital media ecosystem.
