The UK is successfully building a clean electricity system, so what explains calls to change course? The UK is decisively moving towards an electricity system powered by renewable energy. In 2025, sources like wind and solar generated almost 50 per cent of all electricity in Great Britain on average. Gas provided just 28 per cent, and coal provided none of our electricity last year, for the first time in over 140 years.

The independent National Energy System Operator confirmed clean power by 2030 is feasible and reliable, yet critics with fossil fuel industry ties keep pushing back.

@studossett.bsky.social examines who's really shaping the energy debate in our latest blog.

The serious. As we called for, confirms a vaccine taskforce approach to clean power. It’s key for growth and freeing people from chaotically priced fossil fuels. Commits to a nature voice at the table.

The fun: tried unsuccessfully to convince us that he didn’t choose his title. Motivated to prove wrong the 2030 clean power doubters. “We’re not pissing around” may become the clean power mission’s mantra.
