Great thread on critical policy reforms to revive California’s condo market.

Why not? Land is cheap, there’s plenty of space, and lots of housing for students. 😳😬😩
Infuriating and stupid.
Love Billy Bragg
On housing, Mayor Matt was the first councilmember to host a press conference opposing the proposal to eliminate single family residential zoning in San Jose
For everyone that thinks the Mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, would be a YIMBY governor, this is from his official mayor website bragging about opposing the elimination of single family zoning.

He represented the Almaden area of San Jose when he was on the City Council (District 10), which is 10 miles from the center of the city and is full of anti-development fat cats.
Every Economics professor loves to tell their audience that paradoxically a “price-match guarantee” is anti-competitive and bad for consumers. And they love it even more when some 2nd year student takes the bait and tries to argue the point.
That change in tax incentives would affect exports (not just domestic sales)?
NEW | Clean power met ALL the growth in global electricity demand in 2025
Solar generation alone met THREE QUARTERS of the demand rise and grew by 30%.
Fossil generation stagnated (-0.2%).

I cover the Golden State Valkyries for the San Jose Mercury News. I'll be posting more content here.
Read about GSV's rookie introductions and what Marta Suarez had to say about being back in the Bay.

It’s a Magic Eye and I can see a unicorn
I largely agree, but here’s an optimistic counter-argument: on a human level, it’s really rewarding to be a mentor. It’s how we build community and a legacy, and I think people still value that, even if corporations don’t.
Another lingering (non-original) thought from yesterday's Viva Calle #openstreets event: it's much easier to convince people w/ joy and positivity.
Viva Calle is fun! Music, celebration, community, wacky bikes, etc. It's so much more effective than complaining and scolding people for driving.
Oh, and you can freeze it as long as you want. Then let it thaw before squeezing the water out.
It does change the texture. It’s pretty different but we really like it, esp if you plan to airfry it. We often cut it into strips.
It makes it easier to get the water out.
Just be careful - it makes the tofu easier to absorb sauce.
Have you tried freezing the tofu first? So good
Another thing I absolutely love about Viva Calle San Jose - and #openstreets events in general - is it allows people to actually experience a car-free world.
Getting people to imagine it so hard, and they have other things to worry about. But when they see and feel it, they know… this is better.
“Answer me these riddles three…”
One of the best parts of Viva Calle SJ is exploring parts of the city I don’t really know. Today I learned that Cimarrón Park is a really nice park. Some huge tree cover, large field, and two full basketball courts in immaculate shape.

Beautiful day for a bike ride

We should just remove the fantasy. Call them political actors and eliminate the lifetime appointments.
“I keep waiting for our love to die
The machines by it's bed
Dim and flicker but it won't stay dead
And it perks up when the nurses bring its medication by.”
If you’re a @themountaingoats.bsky.social fan you should check out the Extra Glenns. Nobody does failed romance like John Darnielle.
“And our love is like Jesus but worse
Though you seal the cave up where you've lain it's body
It rises
It rises”
What’s the over-under on how many players he injures?
I look forward to him going 0-for-5 on 3s in the 4th quarter
If you're biking from downtown I recommend taking San Fernando to 17th, then San Antonio to King. There is no bike lane on San Antonio, but it's small/slow enough the whole way and there is a dedicated bike lane on the bridge over 101 and the short stretch of King.

Next Viva Calle San Jose is this Sunday. Starts at the beautiful Mexican Heritage Plaza and goes East from there.
