The KBA criteria focus on populations of species and their habitats or ecosystems. πΏ
π‘Each ecosystem is defined by the unique collection of species it sustains. Conserving these ecosystems helps to ensure the simultaneous survival of many species.

βExtent, characteristics and policy applications of Key Biodiversity Areasβ reviews the first decade of the global standard for identifying Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs): a single, science-based way to identify the places that matter most for life on Earth. ππ³
Companies can access KBA data through the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT). This powerful tool combines information from three key π biodiversity datasets: the World Database of #KBAs, the @protectedplanet.bsky.social database, and the IUCN Red List.

Close to 20% of KBAs are wetlands. These foster more than 4,000 trigger species, such as the vulnerable Lesser White-fronted Goose or the critically endangered Hooded Grebe.
Conserving these sites is critical for wetlands and all the species that depend on them.
