The difference is, the priest was not connecting the story of Jesus to militant, violent Christian Nationalism.

So fellow Christians - do you think this is OK? I think it’s blasphemous for someone who claims to follow Christ. ⚓️ (gift article)

A former JAG Lt Colonel lays out why #POTUS’ statements today already constitute war crimes under US and International law. In short, It’s a war crime to indiscriminately THREATEN civilian infrastructure in order to put pressure on its government.

“Bombing them back to the Stone Age,” as he claimed he was going to do the other day, cannot be justified by any stretch of Christian Just War theory, and I cannot understand why anyone who claims to follow Jesus would say this is OK under any circumstances.
And yes, this is a real post, and no, it does not matter than the Iranians have hit Kuwaiti desalinization plants. That’s a Tu Quoque logical fallacy.
Specifically the DoD Law of War manual and the War Crimes Act of 1996. #POTUS will have immunity, but no one down the chain of command will.
Here on Easter, our president is once again threatening to draw our military into war crimes by destroying civilian power and transportation infrastructure. ⚓️

Happy Easter! I’m back! The most important thing I want to share today is this new @benwildflower.com icon, an abolitionist anastasis icon showing Jesus harrowing the Hell of imprisonment, which is BREATHTAKING. (I commissioned this piece.) Proclaim resurrection and liberation, friends!
I am SAYING!
This is from the ELCA’s 2006 version of the Solemn Reproaches, used at our church from the Book of Common Worship (PCUSA) because we have an Episcopal and Presbyterian church united in worship and service.
“I gave you my peace, but you draw the sword in my name, and you have made a cross for your Savior.” #GoodFriday ⚓️
Just another reminder that if POTUS makes good on his repeated threat to destroy Iranian civilian power infrastructure, he and everyone involved in the strike are guilty of war crimes under both international and US law.
“We tend to consider ourselves powerful when we dominate, victorious when we destroy our equals, great when we are feared.. God has given us an example not of how to dominate, but of how to liberate; not of how to destroy life, but of how to give it.” (Gift Article)

Maundy Thursday morning - drafting a statement for the #Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee because #ICE has detained the President of the Islamic Society of #Milwaukee. This is exactly how a democracy is supposed to function. Perfectly fine. ⚓

I don’t want to hear any Tu Quoque logical fallacies about what Iran has done. Because someone else has done something evil does not make it acceptable when we do it.
Just FYI, intentionally targeting civilian power infrastructure that powers things like hospitals, water treatment, heating, and food refrigeration is a clear violation of the Geneva conventions. We’ve criticized Russia every time they’ve done this to Ukraine.
Wasn’t it more like “ALLEhmmmmmmmmm?”

“But Europe, in particular, has no great wish to be drawn into America’s conflict. It’s not those countries’ fault that Iran closed this vital maritime artery, driving up prices for cargo and oil worldwide.” (gift article)

“Hey, I know we didn’t talk to you before we started this war, but would you mind sending some help to get us out of this mess? No?! Well then, we didn’t really want or need you anyhow - in fact this was all a loyalty test!!!” 🙄
The SecDef is deeply unserious. The families of the members of our Armed Forces deserve better.
In every war, innocents die. The war porn being peddled by our government right now is an attempt to cover up this reality. This is why wars should always be fought as an absolute last resort. (Gift Article)

The war is costing American taxpayers nearly a billion dollars a day and depleting munitions that cannot be quickly replaced. If the humanitarian cost does not move you, the economic and military cost should at least give you pause.

NEW “We’re celebrating a tradition that is at its core about resisting occupation and maintaining community in the face of horrors. You can’t keep politics out of Irish music. No one should try, for two reasons. First, it’s ahistorical. Second, Minnesotans are ready for a big anti-fascist party.”

Can the Iran war meet the “Justice Before War” principles? Can’t see it even coming close.
Can a #war ever be justified from a #Christian perspective? Here are the basics of just war theory in four one-minute videos. ⚓️

‘Cause if there’s anything that is self-apparent from world history, it’s that making a religious figure a martyr leads to capitulation and less violence… 🙄 ⚓️ #iran
Constitution: “[The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To declare War”. Military action with the stated intent of regime change is by definition war.
