Trump's own aides barred him from the Situation Room during a rescue mission because he was having a meltdown. It's time for the 25th Amendment. An American fighter jet was shot down over Iran. Two airmen were missing behind enemy lines. A 24-hour rescue operation was underway. And the President of the United States was screaming at aides for hours in a nearly empty West Wing, so unhinged that his own team locked him out of the Situation Room and ran the crisis without him. Reports indicate that Trump went into a "frenzied state" after learning the airmen were unaccounted for. His reaction wasn't concern for their safety.
His "hours-long tirade" became such a hindrance that aides made the call: get him out of the room. Vice President Vance, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Pentagon leadership, and intelligence officials ran the operation from the Situation Room. Trump got phone calls at "meaningful moments," which is White House speak for "we told him what we wanted him to know when we thought he could handle it." The rescue nearly failed. Aircraft got stuck in desert sand. US forces scrambled to avoid Iranian detection. The airman was eventually pulled out alive. But it happened because the adults in the room decided the president was a bigger risk to the mission than the Iranian military.

I find this really depressing. It’s a decision to take the more politically expedient approach even if it makes the problem worse. Harm reduction is not a popular approach. It’s more popular to lock up addicts. But it’s not effective, it’s cruel and it’s more expensive.

It is likely that Trump's Iran catastrophe will lead to some kind of compensation for all the countries the US has screwed (which is all of them). We would do well now to lay groundwork for seizing assets of the Palantirs and Musk fortune that enabled Trump's rise and invasion.
