I love the tradition of dragging the new Speaker to the chair. Nothing says “welcome to your new job” like a bit of theatrical wrestling.

How to awaken Canada’s sleeping economic giant Recent interviews with industry leaders and experts point toward 10 areas where actionable strategies are needed – and toward the sorts of policy actions that may be needed

Great nuggets in this insightful piece by @aradwanski.bsky.social, including that the energy transition “is still happening globally, despite Mr. Trump’s disinterest in it, and his administration’s antipathy […] gives Canada an opportunity.”

Did the rest of you watching the Liberal debate have audio issues on your feed at the beginning including someone laughing after Gould referenced our "own little Trump here at home,” or was that just cpac?

Heisenberg and Schrodinger get pulled over for speeding.

The cop says, “Do you know how fast you were going?”

Heisenberg replies, “No, but I know exactly where I am.”

Suspicious, the cop checks the trunk and says, “Did you know there’s a dead cat back here?”

Schrodinger sighs, “Well, now we do.”

I can’t believe how often I read articles that treat softer growth in EV sales in a way that implies they are tanking, without the context of putting them up against ICE vehicle sales declines.

Electric Vehicle Sales Review Q2-2024 Strategy& and PwC Autofacts® have analyzed electric vehicle sales worldwide in the second quarter of 2024.

Any number of examples support this, but just one is that in Q2, in the top 5 European markets (FR, DE, IT, ES, UK), EV sales increased 11% YOY, whereas ICE sales fell by 2%. As a result, total electric vehicle market share has crept above the 50% mark.

Opinion: Europe’s car battery ambitions go up in smoke. China wins again as Northvolt files for bankruptcy Northvolt was hobbled by severe production problems, a shortage of funding and skittish customers, a few of whom lost patience with the low output

You’d think EV sales are tanking in EU:

“EU EV sales are going in reverse as high prices, range anxiety, lack of charging points, waning EV purchase subsidies and a thin range of models…repel buyers.”

Actually, EV sales growth is stronger than ICE vehicles.
