Thinking of doing a right wing grift by writing patriotic erotica, I’ll call it Patr-erotica.

I've had this bookmarked for a bit, and thought I'd pop it open on Father's Day. @mikemwilson.bsky.social originally said "It's kind of grim," and DAMN he was right. But it's the best kind of grim, the kind that makes you think about yourself and the people around you in a deeper way.

“The only thing hanging in the closet now is the suit. Waiting for me. Like a Wall Street Grim Reaper.”

This matter-of-fact heartbreaker by @mikemwilson.bsky.social is going to stay with me. What a perfect short story.

Really great, powerful, stunner of a story from @mikemwilson.bsky.social

"If this is true he’s doing a cool thing for my wife. His wife. Our wife. It can’t be easy to come over here and tell the dying ex that she doesn’t want to see him anymore, to help us break up all over again."

It ain’t a true Midwestern childhood unless you were traumatized by tornado sirens half a dozen times a year while your dad drank cans of Bud in a lawn chair out in the driveway as the hail started falling.

This is going to be the title story of the book and I can’t wait to send it out, see what happens.

I don’t read many new stories anymore. But this one by @mikemwilson.bsky.social was quite good.

Have been reading/thinking about 20th century NYC publishing and it’s a bummer how much it seemed to depend on a rich person here and there with decent taste to publish great books that barely sold.

At the top of the page is a drawing of a pile of skulls. Underneath is today’s date: March 31, 2025. Then the title of the story and the name of the author: The Haunted House of Things Left Unsaid by Anna Vangala Jones.
Below that is the text of the opening lines of the story: “Everyone’s heard the rumors that when you die, they take you into a house you’ve never seen before—real dilapidated and creepy for added effect maybe—and in each room, they make you watch people from throughout the course of your life reading or listening to all the things you’ve wanted to say to them when you were alive but never did. Letters, emails, notes in books, burned CDs, text messages, silent moments”
