the best fundraising thank you screen ever, for an exceptionally good cause, because we made #16WINDIANA real.

it precisely "looks natural" yet is entirely artificial and unsustainable.

I live in a town of 50 people in a valley of 250. The two major employers are a national park and a ranch which diverts and pumps water to grow alfalfa in the desert to feed cattle in a place where cattle should not be.

I haven't, actually.

"garage rock revival", "post-punk revival"

yeah, checks out, not music I've ever been interested in.

Weird that GS get two checks a month and uniforms only one. I'm assuming it's an artifact of archaic accounting systems?

No, I mean, federal civil servants get paid biweekly.

For the record: The Washington Post is run by partisan hacks who think we won't remember that they took the *exact* opposite stance when it was Republicans pushing their own gerrymandering grab in Texas last year -- *without* putting it up for a vote.

"you're being extraordinarily rude" in asking the most powerful law enforcement officer in the country if he told the truth in his own libel lawsuit.

Starting a mid-decade redistricting war only to end up with -1 seats is the same fine strategic genius and subtle grasp of game theory that brough us the Strait of Hormuz.

The GOP entered this redistricting under the rather childish delusion they were going to gerrymander, and nobody would gerrymander them. In TX, MO, and a half dozen other states, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind

BlueSky fix your pictures so I can tag all the Virginia Republicans with a picture of a McDonald's job application

No we should definitely tilt the playing field against the fascist party. There's a pretty strong case that we should de facto ban the Republican Party.

I think "has medical/personal care needs" is something to add to that list.

Like maaaaaaybe we should encourage growing climate appropriate crops by charging normal water rates. That water intensive crop isn't profitable in an area with a water shortage? Grow something better suited to the environment.

It's both funny and embarrassing how all of these uncreative Tech "geniuses" are naming their companies after the heart of darkness or the literal embodiments of evil as though it isn't a statement of intent they assume people are too dim to see as transparent evil.

The problem with AI discourse is that its polluted by this level of nonsense getting broadcast out to huge audiences by the dumbest people imaginable (elon especially)

requiring treatment for mental health conditions is no more reactionary than requiring the quarantine of people who have easily-transmissible diseases. you do not, in fact, have a right to willfully endanger other people.

2 days ago 0 0 0 0

actually what I think is reactionary is deciding that we're going to treat people as felons for behaviors which are beyond their control due to mental illness or addiction - literal disorders of brain chemistry and function which should be treated as the medical problems which they are.

2 days ago 1 0 1 0

ah yes, the well-known reactionary idea of providing free mental health and addiction care to everyone so that people are less susceptible to antisocial behavior, and less likely to violate criminal laws which would result in their criminal punishment and imprisonment.

we just reinstitutionalized people in even more punitive, hostile, violent, and uncaring settings. that's not better.
