Thanks for the review! "My City on iOS is a thoughtful, well-executed adaptation that captures the spirit of the original while embracing the strengths of digital play. It’s accessible, replayable, and surprisingly deep..."

Glad you liked some of our fav features!
"The AI opponents are well done and offer healthy competition across variable difficulty levels. Online play adds another avenue to compete with players around the world. And echoing Andrew, the daily challenges are a great touch to keep you coming back."
Screenshot of My City app showing the plus shaped church piece as the first piece of the game. It cannot fit legally next to the sawmill, which is where the first piece must be played. It's a church, so you can't pass it according to the rules of the games, so the player must end the game immediately.
Hmm we thought we had controlled for these edge cases but it looks like today's Daily Challenge forces everyone to end the challenge on the first turn. 😅 This is the trouble with randomly generating maps!
Looks like everyone will score -88 today 🏆

And they notice our commitment to streamlined and usable UI rather than flashy visuals. That's our designer's general philosophy, but we hope to make even prettier games too! #indiegamedev
They do include a request for pass and play - we considered this feature but decided to focus on building online multiplayer and strong Al opponents instead. #indiegamedev
"Reiner Knizia's My City is a standout, addictive tile-laying game that evolves just enough to hook you through the campaign and beyond."
"Strong AI makes it great for on-the-go play, while online multiplayer revives group sessions. The tutorial is interactive and gentle, easing newcomers into Knizia's tight mechanics. Daily Challenges and Randomised mode extend life beyond the campaign."
"The presentation suits the game well. A perfect puzzler in the vein of Carcassonne. Highly recommended as My City is speedier."
"All in all, we got a clean, clever city-builder puzzler that kept me saying “just one more chapter.” I didn’t know the original, now I want to try it on the table. I strongly recommend it for bite-sized puzzle fans and board game curios alike."
We love when our apps get you to play at the table!
'Very engaging. It works very well on mobile. You get quick levels, snappy touch controls to drag/rotate, and a readable UI. I only played against the AI, and it was a good sparring partner, unless I sped through my decisions, but it was enough to make me rethink sloppy placements."
"This is a well-done board game conversion that takes away a lot of the hassle of actually playing board games, with the computer stopping you from making illegal moves and finding enough people to play against."
"Simple controls that do what they’re supposed to, pleasant graphics, and a leaderboard to climb. There’s nothing not to like about this one."

"Accessibility is a big plus here. You get high contrast colors, toggleable textures, and helpful symbols to make gameplay smoother. On top of that, the app supports both online multiplayer for up to four players and offline play against AI, so you can enjoy it anywhere."

Picture of Fromage board game on a table. There is a round central board with cheese artwork and slots for cheese-shaped meeples. Below that is a player board showing various upgrades and player tokens.
We got to try out Fromage over the weekend and had lots of fun with it! Our group especially loved the simultaneous turns in a worker placement game so that you're engaged the entire time. We were worried about same-iness, but drafting the upgrade tiles assured new viable strategies each play.
Screenshot of UI design software showing 14 mobile screen mockups of "New Game" screen wireframes. They are white, phone-sized rectangles with gray boxes and text showing the UI flow. In the top left of the screen there are mocks with full artwork that looks like the box art of My City with visually designed buttons and menu options.
It's always satisfying in UI design to look back at old wireframes next to more polished mocks - like in this snippet of the New Game flow in My City Digital. Working in gray wires helps to focus on the logical layout and flow without getting distracted by visual design. #boardgameapp #indiedev
Screenshot of Figma (UI design software) showing a grid of 26 different app icons for the My City digital app. Some show a building floating in the clouds or on the ground, one shows a train, and 6 others on the right show a grid of tetris piece shaped buildings.
Working through some My City app icon directions - this is the kind of stuff we can pretty easily A/B test on the app stores (but of course we want a great one to launch with!)
Agreed! I think there's room for both of them as different experiences.
In the video game, you can only see what enemies will do on their next turn. But as you play a lot, you learn what the attack patterns are. This system requires them to reveal enemy attacks further in advance, but that levels the playing field for new and experienced players. You all just plan more!
Since we adapt board games into video games versions, it's so cool to explore the inverse here with a game I know so well. I'm usually trying to fit tons of information from boards and cards onto a mobile screen. In this case they had to divide up a LOT of info across many different components.
Slay the Spire: The Board Game pieces laid out on a blue playmat on a table. There is a central board that has a map of rooms and 4 player minis lined up next to rows of cards with monsters on them. Two players have a player mat and cards in front of them. Other stacks or decks of cards are spread out around the rest of the table along with little bowls with components in them.
Okay Slay the Spire: The Board Game is impressive! The 3 of us have well over 1,000 hrs of the video game logged between us. But the board game still feels fresh & fun! Cooperating as all 4 classes adds a fun new twist and they've adapted the mechanics in a way that's fun but manageable on a table.
