Juliet, from @cescotland.bsky.social, has got it right.
Our energy can either enrich billionaires or empower our communities.
It's up to us to get them to make the right choice.

A Scottish Community Wealth Fund would be bold, transformative and internationally unique - and would put communities at the heart of a national wealth funding model and ensure that communities right across Scotland benefit from the renewables bonanza
New research shows that communities across Scotland could benefit by £500 million per year.
How? Through a Scottish Community Wealth Fund paid into by commercial renewables developers.

'Renewables are the future of Scotland’s energy but we’re at risk of repeating the mistakes of the past. We let the profits from oil and gas disappear into the pockets of corporations. We need to see more ambition from government so it doesn't happen again.'

It’s not surprising the public overwhelmingly supports community ownership of renewable energy, rather than big corporate developers, when you see all the benefits the income from local ownership brings to people.

Scotland is rich in renewable energy. But too much of the wealth is going to private companies and investors.

We're pleased to be a partner in the 'Our Power' campaign. Communities have been leading the way for decades in home grown renewable energy right here in Scotland - but we need so much more of this, and more so now than ever with energy prices and household bills skyrocketing
As the Bill becomes law, we’ll be keeping a close eye to see that community ownership of energy is firmly embedded in the Ministerial statement and guidance and in the local action plans that will follow from this legislation. 3/3
Community ownership of energy is a transformative way to build the wealth of local towns and villages, from the bottom up, for the benefit of everyone. It brings income and local prosperity, and it generates community cohesion and a sense of hope. 2/3
The Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Bill, passed yesterday, is the first of its kind in the world. We’re celebrating that community ownership of energy is included in all three parts of the legislation. Huge thanks to our friends at @communitylandsc.bsky.social for working together on this 🙌1/3
We welcome the Local Power Plan as a public pledge by the UK Government and Great British Energy to support and invest in community owned energy, recognising the unparalleled social and economic benefits that it brings.

Our Policy Manager, Liz Murray, in today’s @scotnational.bsky.social, outlines how the issue of ownership is fundamental to how ‘Just’ the ‘Just Transition’ is and what could be done to ramp up community ownership of renewable energy

With the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan currently being finalised and the Holyrood elections coming up in May, there’s a huge opportunity right now for all parties in Scotland to get firmly behind community ownership of energy.
Great from @futureeconscot.bsky.social!
Community Wealth Building fundamentally challenges the huge inequalities in wealth and power built into the current economic system. And community owned energy is a key part of CWB, creating and keeping wealth locally

Thank you to @eastlothiancouncil.bsky.social for considering ways to make the energy transition a just transition for communities.
As Cllr Lynn Jardine said: "too often the financial rewards flow to large companies & distant stakeholders. For a just transition to be meaningful that must change."
Thank you @alynsmith.bsky.social ! ❤️ Looking forward to meeting with you soon to discuss this.

Our 3rd manifesto ask is to use planning legislation to rule out new renewables and storage developments that don’t provide shared ownership or community benefit funds at a fair level. ⚖️
Planning decisions on projects up to 50MW are devolved, and Scotland should be using these powers. 🧑⚖️📜
Ask #2 is to use public land to boost community energy. 📈
When new leases are issued for repowering windfarms, community energy companies should have ‘first dibs’.
We could meet the target (👇) by transferring 1/3rd of the renewables on public forestry land into community hands.
