Calls for East Lothian residents living near wind farms to get free electricity A council leader has said people who live near wind farms should be given free electricity as he backed calls for an overhaul of rules surrounding renewable development.

Our 3rd manifesto ask is to use planning legislation to rule out new renewables and storage developments that don’t provide shared ownership or community benefit funds at a fair level. ⚖️

Planning decisions on projects up to 50MW are devolved, and Scotland should be using these powers. 🧑‍⚖️📜

Ask #2 is to use public land to boost community energy. 📈

When new leases are issued for repowering windfarms, community energy companies should have ‘first dibs’.

We could meet the target (👇) by transferring 1/3rd of the renewables on public forestry land into community hands.
