Interesting that this article discusses the challenges of planning travel in a world where our climate has become more extreme and less predictable, but fails to recognize that we must travel less to curb emissions causing climate change.

A decade after Calgary opened its downtown cycle track network, no one is leading the cycling file at city hall. We dig into what city hall has—and hasn't—done. #yycbike
It is beyond my comprehension why Canada lets murderers out of jail, especially when there’s been no investment in rehabilitation. We are all at risk until the “justice” system values victims more than perpetrators. 13 years is not an adequate sentence for taking a life.

The truth hurts. Disappointed to see folks pile on shaming and misdirected anger in response to Suzuki’s statement just because he says what any thinking person already knows.
He also said, “I’m not giving up in the sense of not doing anything.” Suzuki has no fucks left to give, & I’m here for it.
He didn’t say give up on mitigation or adaptation, “I’m not giving up in the sense of not doing anything.”
Your post is disappointing and dishonest.
That’s scary. I’m glad you’re okay. Walking and biking shouldn’t be so dangerous. Also agree re: banning right turns on red and the other recommendations CAA made.

New AI-powered CAA study has found that pedestrians and cyclists face ‘life-threatening’ near-misses at intersections across Canada every day, AND makes simple recommendations for municipalities to improve streets for ped & cyclist safety. #yyc #yycbike

I’ve been wondering (fearing) that too.
“You can’t have absolutism on the left or the right without authoritarianism.” - Rep Sarah McBride. 👏🏼
This convo rings true for much more than trans rights. Brilliant.

It’s my first season with a solar installation and I’ve wondered how wildfire smoke events would impact production. Even though the air quality health index is 11 (very high risk), the smoke must not be blocking sunlight too much because I’m not seeing a negative impact on solar production. ☀️
There is some good work happening in Alberta to support deep energy retrofits for the multi-residential sector. I’m sure more will come. albertaecotrust.com//insights/al... Retrofit Accelerator - Alberta Ecotrust
Since I mentioned solar, not all installers are created equally. I got 4 quotes. Only one company (SkyFire) came to do an onsite evaluation using a drone and this was also the only company that required an engineering assessment to determine if my roof could handle the load. Guess who I chose?
Agree. I used to own a townhouse and not having the ability to adapt or mitigate climate change there was one of the reasons I got a house, which is only 700 sq ft and the same cost as many condos. More needs to be done to allow renters and condo owners to live in safe spaces too.
There are options I’ve mentioned in this post for almost any budget. The big ticket items are for homeowners. I got the Greener Homes Grant and loan, and prioritized my budget towards what’s important to me.
Stay safe!
I have a solar installation, which provides all the electricity for all my needs, including my air source heat pump, meaning that while I’m adapting to climate change by cleaning my air inside, I’m not making climate change worse by increasing my energy consumption. A note on affordability…
Whether you’re running a/c, an air source heat pump or the fan on your furnace to circulate air, use a furnace air filter with a MERV rating of 13 or higher to remove toxins. But don’t many of these activities just increase energy consumption and therefore make climate change worse? Not necessarily…
An air quality monitor should measure PM 2.5 and VOCs, as this is what’s in wildfire smoke. Check product ratings on Consumer Reports! I have an Airthings View Plus. If you can afford a/c, consider an air source heat pump. It’s the most efficient way to cool (and heat) air. And…
Check product ratings on Consumer Reports (free online access via the library). Blueair is one of the only brands of air purifiers that works. It’s been tested and rated well by Consumer Reports, and I have an air quality monitor that shows my air is clean. Which air quality monitor is best?
A short thread with options to keep your indoor environment safe during a wildfire smoke event. There are ways to protect yourself indoors but buyer beware, many products don’t do what they claim. 🧵

Are you taking a flight to the watch party? 🙃
The Emergency is Here, indeed. This is a must-listen episode of the @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social Show. I had not considered not travelling to the U.S. until now. I have good friends there but this is scary AF.

This election matters, and every vote counts!
Agree. It's a two-horse race. Voting Liberal is the only sensible choice for progressives.
